The OA Season 3 Is Officially Canceled By Netflix
To be clear, the streaming platform Netflix cancelled The OA after two seasons. Many viewers were surprised by the cancellation because they loved the series. Spectators are hoping that the series will be picked up by another streaming platform.
People became concerned and started petitioning for another season of The OA. Spectators have been hoping for a satisfying conclusion. It was one of the most disappointing pieces of news for the audience. Brit Marling took the cancellation of the series and penned a letter for the spectators.
Netflix head of originals Cindy Holland said in a statement, “We are incredibly proud of the 16 mesmerizing chapters of The OA, and are grateful to Brit and Zal for sharing their audacious vision and for realizing it through their incredible artistry. We look forward to working with them again in the future, in this and perhaps many other dimensions.”
The OA Season 3 Was Already In Development
Isaacs already mentioned before about the season being in the works. They’ve got all five seasons mapped out in their head. They did before they started. And that’s one of the reasons, I think, why the show was originally picked up by Netflix.
Because they arrived with this thing that was fully formed, it’s their singular voices. It doesn’t bear the stamp of any kind of executive development. I’m so invested in seeing it as a fan that I hope to god that people like the show as much as I do because we’d like to get a season three, four, and five.”
Holland also said in 2018, “The OA is fantastic … I think from the very beginning when Brit [Marling] and Zal [Batmanglij] pitched us a five-season arc, we were really excited.” This clearly shows that the series was supposed to be a five-season arc. It’s more disappointing to know that there is a story to tell but it won’t be conveyed.
Spectators Started Petitions For Another Season Of The OA
Not only that, but enthusiasts took to Twitter and started tweeting with the hashtags #SaveTheOA and #TheOAisReal. This kind of support from the audience moved Marling. A spectator also went on a hunger strike for Netflix to renew this series for another season.
There has been a lot of speculation on social media about the reason for the cancellation. Many spectators have speculated that it is merely a publicity stunt. But the real reason is still kept under wraps.
