Brendan Shortall runs away with PSHS Athlete of the Week honors

Brendan Shortall helped to lead the Plymouth South Varsity Football team to its second consecutive victory on Friday night vs. Pembroke, earning him Plymouth South High School Male Athlete of the Week honors. 

In his second game ever at running back, he carried the ball 15 times for 135 yards, averaging 9 yards per carry.  His productivity has been remarkable and he continues to get stronger with each game in the backfield.  Defensively, he continues to provide consistency in the secondary with his play and leadership.  Continue Reading →

Emma Sampson kicks her way to Athlete of the Week honors

Emma Sampson emerged as the hero of Plymouth South Varsity Football  Friday night with the game winning 19-yard field goal  to propel the Panthers past Pembroke for an 18-16 victory. 

Her game winning kick is the culmination of her hard work and perseverance that began long before the football season as she prepared to kick at the varsity level.  Her accomplishment on Friday night embodies what hard work in the offseason can do and we are proud of her for it.  For that, she’s the Plymouth South High School Female Athlete of the Week. Molly Costello named Plymouth South High School Female Athlete of the Week

The Plymouth South Female Athlete of the Week is field hockey player Molly Costello. Molly is a defender on the team and also a captain. Last week Molly stepped up and played a significant part in holding Scituate to a 1-1 tie. Scituate had multiple opportunities to score, but Molly marked tight in the circle defensively. Alex Cohen leads PSHS football to first win, gets Athlete of the Week honors

Alex Cohen led the football team to their first victory of the season vs. North Quincy, earning him Plymouth South High School Male Athlete of the Week honors. He passed for 201 yards and three touchdowns while also running for 120 yards. Alex returned from an ankle injury late in the game to help secure the homecoming victory for the Panthers. His leadership and unselfishness were crucial to securing the team’s first win of the season. Continue Reading →

Shane Richardson named Plymouth South High School Male Athlete of the Week

Plymouth South High School golfer Shane Richardson is averaging 38.5 strokes per round over the first 13 matches and has been the medalist in the match seven times leading the Panthers to a 10 -3 record and another tournament berth. He is the PSHS Male Athlete of the Week. Continue Reading →

Kayla Donovan leads the way to athlete of the week honors

Field hockey player Kayla Donovan was named Plymouth South High School Athlete of the Week. Kayla is a senior captain and forward on the team. Kayla consistently puts the team ahead of herself and sets a good example. She is always positive to her teammates and is a leader in all she does. Friday, in a 4-0 win over Whitman Hanson, Kayla set up her teammates multiple times offensively for shots on goal and scored two goals and had an assist.   Continue Reading →

Brianna Jones runs off with Athlete of the Week honors

Brianna Jones has been named the Plymouth South High School Female Athlete of the Week. In the opening meet against Silver Lake she was 5th overall scoring her first varsity points. In Saturdays invitational in Martha’s Vineyard, Brianna was a medal winner beating her previous best 5 kilometer time by over 5 minutes.

Senior Captain Cam Brenner leads the way to Athlete of the Week honors

Senior Captain Cam Brenner of the Plymouth South High School Soccer team is the Male Athlete of the Week. He leads the South boys Soccer team in total points, with 2 goals and 1 assist in the home opener against Dennis-Yarmouth. Cam’s ability to play both sides of the ball makes him one of the most complete players in the Patriot league. Pilgrims Come From Behind, Advance to Southern Division Championship

The 2017 Plymouth Pilgrims made the most of their first NECBL playoff appearance in three seasons, erasing a three-run deficit and advancing to the southern division championship. After being shutout in the first eight frames, a ninth inning rally sparked the Pilgrims come-from-behind win over the Mystic Schooners on Thursday night at The Shipyard. Read more here. Despite offensive chances, Pilgrims fall short

The Plymouth Pilgrims entered Tuesday’s contest against the Newport Gulls with one as the magic number to clinch the postseason. The Gulls on the other hand are mathematically eliminated, and tried to delay the Pilgrims playoff chances. Nine innings later the magic number didn’t change. Pilgrims shut out by Mystic Schooners

The Plymouth Pilgrims entered their contest against the Mystic Schooners on Thursday night winners of eight of their previous 10 games. The Pilgrims offense was clicking and the pitching was getting the job done. However a 14-run offensive outburst from the Schooners at Forges Field quickly deflated the Pilgrims’ sails. The Pilgrims were shutout for the first time this NECBL season, notching only five hits in the game. With only one of those hits going for extra bases, the Pilgrims rarely found runners in scoring position. Continue Reading →

Pitchers shine as Pilgrims split two

A quality start in baseball is defined as an outing in which a pitcher throws at least six innings and allows no more than three earned runs. On Wednesday, the Plymouth Pilgrims spoiled a quality start from Jonathan Bermudez (St. Leo), falling to the Valley Blue Sox by a final score of 12-5. Fox 25 News: Road race participants fighting to get refunds after last minute cancelation

Jennifer Mcalinden planned to run her first half marathon near her home in Plymouth, but when the old sandwich road race abruptly canceled she needed a backup. The Old Sandwich Road Race was scheduled to be and end at Plymouth South High School on June 4, but the day before an email from event organizers Plymouth Rock Racing said it had been “postponed due to the availability of the venue (construction).” Read more at Fox25Boston.com. Pilgrims start season with two wins

The Plymouth Pilgrims christened Forges Field for the 2017 season in walk-off fashion, defeating the Newport Gulls 2-1 on Thursday night.

Have a baseball player spend the summer at your home

Each year the Pilgrims recruit players from around the country to come to Plymouth and compete in the New England Collegiate Baseball League.  Shortly after their college season ends, players pack up their baseball gear and move to Plymouth for approximately two months. 

This year’s team includes players from states such as California, Texas, Florida, Arizona and Missouri. “Our players will be arriving at the beginning of June and will be in Plymouth until the beginning of August” said GM Kevin Plant. “We appreciate all the families that accept our players into their homes.  In many cases, the relationships that are developed between Host families and our players will last well beyond the end of the season.  This year, we are struggling to find enough housing for our players.” (more…) Continue Reading →

Courtney Carroll named PSHS Athlete of the Week

Junior Courtney Carroll remains unbeaten at No. 1 singles for the Girls’ Tennis team. At the halfway point in the regular season, Courtney is 10-0 in matches and has not lost a set this season. Courtney had a big week getting wins over two of the Patriot League’s top players from Duxbury and Scituate.  Her win in a close match at Duxbury sealed the Panther’s 3-2 victory. Continue Reading →

Two Quinnipiac stars join the Pilgrims

The Plymouth Pilgrims have added a pair of players from Quinnipiac University to their roster. Junior Mike Davis is a relief pitcher who  has appeared in 14 games during which he’s allowed only a single earned run for a 0.51 ERA and picked up six saves. Sophomore  Liam Scafariello leads the Bobcats with 13 homers and 28 RBI to lead the team while hitting .254, starting every game and playing an error free first base. Andrew Wagner named PSHS Male Athlete of the Week

Plymouth South High School Male Athlete of the Week Andrew Wagner placed 4th at Saturday’s Massachusetts State Coaches Meet in the 55 hurdles with a time of 8.00, the 9th best time in the state and 2nd fastest in school history.
