Despite offensive chances, Pilgrims fall short

The Plymouth Pilgrims entered Tuesday’s contest against the Newport Gulls with one as the magic number to clinch the postseason. The Gulls on the other hand are mathematically eliminated, and tried to delay the Pilgrims playoff chances. Nine innings later the magic number didn’t change. Pilgrims shut out by Mystic Schooners

The Plymouth Pilgrims entered their contest against the Mystic Schooners on Thursday night winners of eight of their previous 10 games. The Pilgrims offense was clicking and the pitching was getting the job done. However a 14-run offensive outburst from the Schooners at Forges Field quickly deflated the Pilgrims’ sails. The Pilgrims were shutout for the first time this NECBL season, notching only five hits in the game. Pilgrims Win Eight of 10, Move Up in Southern Division

Pitchers shine as Pilgrims split two

A quality start in baseball is defined as an outing in which a pitcher throws at least six innings and allows no more than three earned runs. On Wednesday, the Plymouth Pilgrims spoiled a quality start from Jonathan Bermudez (St. Leo), falling to the Valley Blue Sox by a final score of 12-5. Fox 25 News: Road race participants fighting to get refunds after last minute cancelation

Jennifer Mcalinden planned to run her first half marathon near her home in Plymouth, but when the old sandwich road race abruptly canceled she needed a backup. The Old Sandwich Road Race was scheduled to be and end at Plymouth South High School on June 4, but the day before an email from event organizers Plymouth Rock Racing said it had been “postponed due to the availability of the venue (construction).” Read more at Continue Reading →

Pilgrims start season with two wins

The Plymouth Pilgrims christened Forges Field for the 2017 season in walk-off fashion, defeating the Newport Gulls 2-1 on Thursday night.

Have a baseball player spend the summer at your home

Each year the Pilgrims recruit players from around the country to come to Plymouth and compete in the New England Collegiate Baseball League.  Shortly after their college season ends, players pack up their baseball gear and move to Plymouth for approximately two months. 

This year’s team includes players from states such as California, Texas, Florida, Arizona and Missouri. “Our players will be arriving at the beginning of June and will be in Plymouth until the beginning of August” said GM Kevin Plant. “We appreciate all the families that accept our players into their homes.  In many cases, the relationships that are developed between Host families and our players will last well beyond the end of the season.  This year, we are struggling to find enough housing for our players.” (more…) Continue Reading →

Courtney Carroll named PSHS Athlete of the Week

Junior Courtney Carroll remains unbeaten at No. 1 singles for the Girls’ Tennis team. At the halfway point in the regular season, Courtney is 10-0 in matches and has not lost a set this season. Courtney had a big week getting wins over two of the Patriot League’s top players from Duxbury and Scituate.  Her win in a close match at Duxbury sealed the Panther’s 3-2 victory. Continue Reading →

Two Quinnipiac stars join the Pilgrims

The Plymouth Pilgrims have added a pair of players from Quinnipiac University to their roster. Junior Mike Davis is a relief pitcher who  has appeared in 14 games during which he’s allowed only a single earned run for a 0.51 ERA and picked up six saves. Sophomore  Liam Scafariello leads the Bobcats with 13 homers and 28 RBI to lead the team while hitting .254, starting every game and playing an error free first base. Plymouth South High School Male Athlete of the Week Andrew Wagner placed 4th at Saturday’s Massachusetts State Coaches Meet in the 55 hurdles with a time of 8.00, the 9th best time in the state and 2nd fastest in school history.

Two from Grand Canyon U coming to play for the Pilgrims

Two players from Grand Canyon University in Arizona are expected to join the Plymouth Pilgrims this summer. Tyler Wyatt of Peoria, Arizona posted a .239 average with seven doubles, two triples and 22 RBI at the plate and also  pitched   10 games posting a 2-5 record, a 5.58 ERA and 37 K’s. The big right-hander also spent time with the Matsu Miners of Alaska Summer Baseball League where his duel skills were on display yet again. In 38 at-bats with the Miners, Wyatt had a homerun and 4 RBI, but shined on the mound going 4-1 with 1.59 ERA in nine games including four starts. (more…) Continue Reading →

Plymouth Pilgrims add to infield for 2017 season

The Plymouth Pilgrims have added a pair of infielders to their roster for the 2017 season, according to a press release from the team. Patrick Dorrian from Lynn University was drafted by the Atlanta Braves out of high school in 2014, but opted to attend Herkimer College before transferring to Lynn. Cam McPhee named PSHS Male Athlete of the Week

Cam McPhee has had an outstanding week for the Plymouth South boy’s hockey team, earning him Plymouth South High School Male Athlete of the Week honors. 

Cam earned a shutout in back-to-back games against Bishop Stang and last year’s division 3 state champions, Hanover.  Hanover was previously undefeated coming into this game as well.  He made 62 saves over the two games and his current shutout streak stands at just over 90 minutes of play. Michael Whyte named Plymouth South High School Male Athlete of the Week

Michael Whyte is this week’s Plymouth South High School Male Athlete of the Week. Mike, who is currently ranked 5th in the state, competes in the 152 pound weight class on the wrestling team and has a record of 15-1. Kendra McIntosh runs off with Female Athlete of the Week honors

Plymouth South High School Female Athlete of the Week Kendra McIntosh has been a dedicated member of the track team. 

Kendra works extremely hard and gives maximum effort at all times.  She has been one of the most valuable athletes on the girls track team and is willing to do whatever the team needs to be successful.

Plymouth Pilgrims sign a pitcher and a catcher

  This offseason got off to a late start for the Pilgrims, but the team continues to make progress in putting the 2017 team together.
