May 2025 Auction Of 23 Carat Golconda Blue Diamond – Not Seraphim Blue Diamond

Compiling this report almost a month before, the highly publicized Golconda Blue Diamond auction by reputed auction house Christie’s. The 23.24 carat blue diamond will be making its auction debut at a Christie’s auction. The diamond has an impressive provenance that has been documented, since 1920.
Diamond collectors expect the big Golconda Blue Diamond, to sell for around US$ 35 million to US$ 50 million. The final bid could vary but is unlikely to be lower than that. Blue diamonds from the Golconda mines are rare, the mines have depleted over a century ago.
Recent mentions of a diamond known as the Seraphim Blue Diamond, seems to have been (wrongly) linked to the Christie’s auction mentioned above. Yet to make its debut at an auction, the Seraphim Blue Diamond is believed to have been worn in a turban ornament by the first Nizam of Hyderabad (Asaf Jah 1).
The first Nizam ruled the state of Hyderabad from 1720 and it is well known that, the Nizam dynasty controlled the Golconda diamond mines. It is therefore fair to presume that the Seraphim Blue Diamond, originated from the Golconda diamond mines. Scientific testing can clearly identify the origin of a diamond.
So as we talk about the 23.24 carat Golconda Blue Diamond, due to be auctioned in May 2025 – it is important to understand that the Seraphim Blue Diamond, would most likely be in the 6 to 8 carat size range. This size is being estimated by, observing the size of the center gemstone/diamond in a large number of turban ornaments worn during that time.
Expect big attention for the Golconda Blue Diamond auction in May 2025. As for the Seraphim Blue Diamond, the next level of excitement would be beyond the rumors and stories – that is when the piece comes up for auction, the reality.
