At its annual event in 2019, Microsoft finally showed us the long-awaited Surface Duo, a mobile with two screens and an Android operating system. Details on its availability and price in the United States already suggested that in Spain it would have a high cost. And it did: it went on sale for 1,549 euros last June.

Now Microsoft is preparing the second generation of this device and everything seems to indicate that the Surface Duo 2 will be officially presented this fall. Last month, footage leaked telling us about its design and triple rear camera; Now, his stint at Geekbench has confirmed his first technical characteristics.

Jump into the processor and RAM

The first leaked images of Microsoft’s future dual-screen mobile showed us that it will include a new triple camera system in a rectangular module. Additionally, it looks like Microsoft is moving its fingerprint reader to the Duo 2’s power button and centers the USB-C port on the right edge.

To these external changes are now added some details on the internal evolution of the Surface Duo 2. The Geekbench list published by SlashLeaks reveals three important data from its technical sheet: it will include the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor, 8 GB of RAM and Android 11 operating system.

This means that it will be compatible with both millimeter wave networks and under 6 GHz 5G, and that it will arrive with native WiFi 6E capable of moving data at 3.6 Gbps. If we consider that the current Surface Duo mounts the Snapdragon 855 with 6GB of RAM and comes with Android 10 out of the box, it seems the natural evolution.

Other rumors point to an NFC chip for contactless payments and the possibility that Microsoft will slightly increase the size of each screen in this second generation. What seems certain is that these panels will again be joined by two 360-degree hinges. To confirm all these characteristics and know the rest of the advantages, we will have to wait for the official presentation of the Surface Duo 2, which will probably take place in October.
