After years of waiting for the possibility, copies between iPhone and Android are now arriving on WhatsApp: the application begins to allow the transfer of chats, photos, videos and voice notes. First on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 and the Galaxy Z Flip3; then spread to the rest of Android.

Android and iPhone users have most of the important apps at their fingertips, so the jump between platforms isn’t too traumatic. Of course, there is one app that makes jumping enormously difficult: WhatsApp. Because it doesn’t allow cross-platform backup, switching from iPhone to Android means missing all conversations (and vice versa). This problem, motivated by the characteristics of WhatsApp, finally has a solution.

First to the new foldable Samsung

Today Tuesday, August 11, is Samsung day, it is not in vain that the brand unveiled two foldable mobile phones, two watches and a headset during its Unpacked. And he is not satisfied with his devices since, with the help of WhatsApp, a feature long awaited since the beginning of the platform has been revealed: the multi-device backup.

WhatsApp has confirmed that the backup between iPhone and Android is already underway and primarily concerns Samsung’s folding carts. Due to the end-to-end encryption of conversations, WhatsApp will allow data transfer tools to convert the conversations, along with all their content, from iPhone to Android and vice versa.

Since a tool is needed to transport data securely between iPhone and Android, the first to achieve this distinction is the Samsung SmartSwitch app. This tool, which includes Samsung devices to avoid headaches when changing phones, receives WhatsApp backup from Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3.

As WhatsApp has shown, SmartSwitch lets you choose which app to transfer between platforms. At the moment only with cable and in the first Samsung; an exclusive that will be diluted in the coming weeks until it reaches all Android devices, probably with other backup tools. Like the data transfer tool, from Google.

WhatsApp lets you move your entire chat history securely, even if the conversations are end-to-end encrypted. This is why multi-device backup took so long

WhatsApp multi-device backup is already official, it only remains to extend it to all cellphones except the first foldable Samsungs. Once it becomes universal, all you have to do is connect an iPhone and Android with a cable and choose the appropriate app for all cats to switch from one mobile to another.
