Waze renews its route display to warn of traffic jams and other incidents on the road

Waze updates the pre-trip screen to provide information added to the trip itself. Once the update reaches all users, the map application will offer all available routes and incidents that delay routes.

Using a free GPS navigation app often leads to an often heated discussion: Google Maps or Waze? These are not the only applications that allow you to reach any point in the world with voice guidance, but there is no doubt that they are the most used. And they are updated frequently, as is the case with the latest novelty that has just landed on Waze: it now offers more information before starting the journey.

Alternative routes, traffic conditions and real-time information

Currently, Waze already offers different information depending on the location of the next destination, since the loading screen displays the chosen route with the option to select a different departure time; and it also has lower accesses to alternative routes, to share routes and see the route. This changes with the last change on this screen.

As Waze reports, the driving platform has deeply updated the screen before starting the journey with much more information related to the chosen route. This way the traveler not only gets the most accurate planning (always system dependent), but Waze also offers all alternatives, traffic conditions and incidents in real time.

Through the new loading screen, Waze aims for the traveler to have a holistic view of their trip instead of having the best choice based on distance and traffic. The map will show the different routes with the chosen one highlighted (similar to what Google Maps highlights), it will offer real-time data of the different routes, it will include the reasons for choosing one or the other itinerary (traffic jams, tolls and other incidents) and other information relating to the planned trip.

The idea of Waze is that every traveler gets all the options available at a glance so that they are the ones who choose according to their needs. All of this is accessible from the screen before starting the journey: this greatly facilitates the taking into account of the different road conditions.

Because you don’t always want to get there as quickly as possible, Waze offering the different route options directly and without having to dive between the options is an improvement for route planning. And if no complications are desired, continue as before: select the recommended route and you’re done. This update will reach all users starting today.
