Washington. The president of the United States, Joe Biden, assured yesterday that the Department of Justice could limit the recently approved prohibition of abortion from six weeks of gestation in Texas.

Biden explained that there are possibilities within the existing law for the Department of Justice to analyze and determine if there is anything that can be done to limit the independent action of people and apply a federal-state law.

The most pernicious thing about this Texas law is that it creates a kind of self-proclaimed vigilante system, in which people seek rewards, the president said. It sounds ridiculous, almost anti-American, he added.

On Thursday, the Supreme Court of the United States rejected an appeal filed by providers of abortion services that sought to freeze the ban on abortion, after ensuring that although there are serious doubts about the constitutionality of Texas law on the part of the clinics, there are complex procedural issues that prevent it from being blocked.

Biden criticized this decision, assuring that it is an unprecedented assault on the constitutional rights of women, provided for in the legal precedent established by the Roe v. Wade case, by which the Supreme Court decriminalized abortion in the United States.

Texas law is one of the strictest in the country, prohibiting abortion when a fetal heartbeat is detected, which is often before a woman knows she is pregnant.

There is no exception for rape or incest, although there is an exception for medical emergencies. It also allows citizens to file civil lawsuits against anyone who assists a pregnant woman with an abortion. It is the first time that a law prohibiting abortion after six weeks has come into force.
