The UN spoke Monday (12) of the demonstrations that took place yesterday in Cuba and demanded that local authorities fully respect the freedom of expression and demonstration of the population.

“We are just watching what is happening and we want basic human rights to be respected,” agency spokesman Farhan Haq said at a press conference.

Asked about allegations of attacks on journalists, including the photographer for the American news agency “Associated Press”, the UN spokesperson argued that the press everywhere should be free to act, without repression, violence or threats.
