ASUS has announced the launch of a new ultra-compact computer. What we all know as a miniPC, an ideal device for those who do not want to depend on bulky towers and are not interested in all-in-one computers and want to set up a small home office with a discreet PC on which to hide any shelf in the living room.
In this case it is the ASUS PL63, a model with dimensions of only 166.2 x 119.7 x 33.9 mm. Slightly larger than a portable hard drive that houses an 11th Gen Intel processor, PCIe 3.0 NVMe drive, and Thunderbolt 4 compatibility.
Power in little space
And this last point is one of the most interesting, since the ASUS PL63 is one of the first miniPCs that offers compatibility with Thunderbolt 4. It is the new data transmission standard in what will be an update from the previous generation, where the 40 Gbps of Thunderbolt 3 is maintained but the requirements to obtain certification have been increased, predicting better compatibility with USB 4.
Recall that as we have already seen, Thunderbolt 4 guarantees support for two 4K screens or one 8K screen. For data, PCIe 32 GB/s for storage speeds up to 3000 MB/s will need to be certified. It will also allow accessories with up to four ports. At least one of the ports will need to be able to charge the PC and a wake-up will be required when connected to a Thunderbolt docking station.
Along with this specification, the PL63 comes inside with 11th generation Intel processors. More precisely with three processor options available: Intel Core i3-1115G4, Core i5-1135G7 and Core i7-1165G7, all accompanied by 1.3 GHz Iris Xe graphics.
This equipment is compatible with two SO-DIMMs (Small Outline Dual In-Line Memory Module), which, as we already know, are a compact version of conventional double-contact memory modules (DIMMs). Thanks to this system, it allows you to install up to 32 GB of dual-channel DDR4 RAM and up to 4 TB of storage capacity with PCIe SSDs.
In the connectivity section, the ASUS PL63 offers an HDMI 2.0 output, a Display Port 1.4 connector, two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type C ports, four USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type A ports, a 3.5 mm audio jack, a LAN port Gigabit Ethernet and the aforementioned support for Thunderbolt 4
Price and availability
The base model is priced around $500 for the model with an Intel Core i5-1135G7 processor and Windows 11 Pro. The noble area is occupied by the model with 32 GB of RAM, a 4 TB capacity SSD and Windows 11 Pro. .
