A park, not a parking lot, on White Horse Road

Plans are being made to turn the former site of Saint Catherine’s Chapel on White Horse Road into a small park. According to Randy Parker, who was hired by the property’s new owners to do surveying work, a presentation will be made at Tuesday’s Conservation Commission meeting to replace the now vacant lot’s asphalt with loam and seed. the site was purchased from the Roman Catholic Archdiocese in June by Michael Lack and Gregory Cogan for $379,000. Plans for White Horse Road chapel site not known

The building is gone, but what will take its place remains a mystery. Saint Catherine’s Chapel was torn down over the weekend by the property’s new owners, who own several other locations in Manomet. So far, besides the permit to take it down, no other plans have been filed at Town Hall. According to records from the Registry of Deeds, the site was purchased from the Roman Catholic Archdiocese in June by Michael Lack and Gregory Cogan for $379,000. OBITUARY:Samuel F. Anastasia, 89, accountant, lobsterman, maker of lemon ice

Samuel F. Anastasia of Plymouth died at home on Oct. 9 at the age of 89. Sam is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Maryellen (Rabideau) of Plymouth and four children: Nan Anastasia of Plymouth; Chuck Anastasia and his wife, V.J, of Barrington, RI; Patti Anastasia and her husband, Tom Spine, of Londonderry, NH; and Marcia Allen and her husband, Peter, of Plymouth. He also leaves five cherished grandchildren: Mike Anastasia and his wife, Rebecca; Nick Anastasia; Emily Anastasia; Graham Allen; and Ian Allen; in addition to his sister, Mildred Winston of Harwich, and many nephews, nieces and cousins. UPDATED: Suspect charged in church fire

Henry Mahon, 19, of Long Pond Road, who had been described as a “person of interest” in the fire set at Saint Bonaventure Church has been charged with arson, according to police records. At his second court hearing in as many days, the judge granted both a prosecution motion for a a dangerousness hearing and a defense motion for a competency hearing. Mahon will be evaluated for 20 days at Bridgewater State Hospital. Mahon had been released on his own recognizance after being arrainged on stolen property charges Thursday, but was quickly re-arrested after police found forensic evidence allegedly linking Mahon to the fire, according to Capt. John Rogers. He declined to to provide details on either the evidence or Mahon's possible motive. Continue Reading →

Plymouth man dies after crashing motorcycle at St. Bonaventure

<p dir=3D”ltr”>A 68-year-old Plymouth man died at a Boston hospital a=
fter being hurt in a motorcycle accident, Thursday morning.</p>
<p dir=3D”ltr”>But it isn=E2=80=99t certain the accident caused his d=
<p dir=3D”ltr”>According to Capt. John Rogers, the victim was practic=
ing maneuvers on his motorcycle in the parking lot of St. Bonaventure Churc=
h, he tried to go around a telephone pole and hit a car. A retired EMT arri=
ved first to tend to the man, whose only visible injury was a broken arm. H=
e was reportedly conscious and alert, according to Rogers.</p>
<p dir=3D”ltr”>The victim was first taken to Jordan Hospital and then=
to Boston, where he died. Rogers could not say if the the motorcycle crash=
was a direct cause of the man=E2=80=99s death.</p>

PHOTOS: Mystery Riders hold annual Blessing of the Bikes

The Manomet Mystery Riders held their annual motorcycle blessing at St. Bonaventure Church, Sunday. This year the bike blessing was in honor of DeeDee Bennet, a Mystery Rider member  who died April 29 of last year.  “DeeDee will always be a family member…You felt like you knew her forever,” Riders President Dennis Pierce said before the blessing. Now, “She is riding free.”

St. Bonaventure Parish Celebrates The Feast of Divine Mercy

The Feast of the Divine Mercy will be celebrated Sunday, May 1, at 3  St. Bonaventure Church.  Father Kenneth Overbeck  will preside.  The prayer service will include Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament & Benediction, prayerful music, veneration of the image of Divine Mercy, singing of the Divine Mercy Chaplet, and time for silent prayer.  Please bring your family and friends, and come to celebrate the Feast of Divine Mercy with us.  Rosaries and materials to help you pray along that day and later on at home are free of charge, and everyone is welcome to attend. Easter egg hunt at St. Bonaventure

Saint Bonaventure Parish is holding  an Easter egg hunt at 1 p.m. Saturday. Children will be divided into three age groups between the ages of 8 and 10.
