The ruling on the field stands, Natick win over PSHS upheld despite use of unauthorized ball

Plymouth South High School Principal Patricia Fry reported in a Wednesday blog post that she would be meeting with the football team Thursday morning to  discuss Natick High School’s use of an unauthorized football during their Tuesday playoff game which Natick won 38-33. In her blog post, Fry explained that the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association issued a rule that the Spalding J5V football would be the official ball of the MIAA playoffs and the only ball used. Fry quoted the ruling “ Teams may not use any other ball during the game.”
All coaches received an official ball at a meeting on November 26. During Tuesday’s game, the Boston Globe reported, Natick was allowed, because of the weather to use a different ball, a Wilson GST, which according to the article is used by a majority of teams during the regular season. Fry noted the Panthers were not given the same privilege. Continue Reading →
