Zoning change may be needed for Simes House

Making the Simes House a sustainable operation will be next to impossible without a zoning change, Manomet Village Common Incorporated Chairman John Moody told the Board of Selectmen, Tuesday night. Manomet Village Common Inc., which was created by several prominent Manometians, was the sole bidder for the contract to manage the historic home. Moody described how the group planned to generate the funds needed to keep it operating. But, given the current zoning, the group is reluctant to commit to the planned five-year lease. Simes House is almost ready for visitors

Seeing a town project completed in Manomet seems like a rare thing, but in the case of the Simes House, it’s happening. Community Preservation Committee Chairman Bill Keohan told the Manomet Village Steering Committee on Tuesday that work on the Simes House is scheduled for completion by early July. Break-in reported on Manomet Point Road

A work trailer at the Simes House was reportedly broken into sometime over the weekend. According to Lieutenant Dana Flynn, it’s unknown how entry was gained into the fenced-in site, but the trailer door was pried off and a nail gun was taken. Someone also entered the house itself via a side door and emptied a fire extinguisher in one of the rooms, he said. (more…) Continue Reading →

Manomet Christmas Tree lighting happens November 25, 2016

This year’s Manomet Christmas Tree Lighting will be at the Manomet Fire Station on November 25, 2016 at 6 p.m.

Parking will be in the St. Bonaventure back lot on fire station side. As usual,  a certain jolly old elf will lead the lighting, along with caroling by Troop 51 and seasonal goodies. Tag sale at the Simes House on June 18

The Simes House will hold a tag sale Saturday June 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the house at 29 Manomet Point Road. Rain date is Sunday June 19. Clean, usable items can be donated at the house on June 11 and June 12 between 10 a.m. and noon, or contact Jim Pierson at 508-224-2639 to make other arrangements. The Simes House Foundation will hold a Plant and Bake Sale on Saturday, May 28, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the house. SLIDESHOW: Easter Egg hunt at the Simes House

Over 300 people attended the Easter Egg Hunt on the Simes House lawn, Saturday afternoon. Besides looking for eggs, children took part in other Easter-related activities, enjoyed music and baked goods, and met the Easter Bunny. Plan to cut down Simes House kitchen put on hold

The Building Committee wants to find a different way to cut $900,000 from the Simes House project than the one put forward by Town Manager Melissa Arrighi. Arrighi had presented a plan, on the advice of Project Manager Ted Gentry, to the Board of Selectmen that would have substantially reduced the home’s kitchen and moved the planned elevator inside it. Arrighi recommends cutting kitchen from Simes House

One of the major dispute between the directors of the Simes House Foundation was over the type of kitchen the historic home should have, with some arguing for a caterer’s kitchen and some wanting a commercial kitchen, complete with a fire suppression system among other features. Christmas at the Simes House is coming

Caroling, holiday refreshments and a visit from St. Nick will highlight the annual Manomet Christmas Tree Lighting on Friday, November 27 at 6 p.m.

Santa and his elves and helpers will be at Manomet Commons on the grounds of the Simes House, 29 Manomet Point Road, Plymouth. Parking is available across the street at Manomet Plaza. The event is free. (more…) Continue Reading →

Simes House restoration cost higher than expected

Restoring the Simes House will cost a bit more than expected. Town Manager Melissa Arrighi gave the Capital Improvements Committee an estimated cost of $4.1 million to finish the historic home, Monday night. After accounting for $750,000 remaining from the original appropriation, the Community Preservation Committee will ask Fall Town Meeting for $3.4 million to finish the job, CPC Chairman Bill Keohan told Selectmen on Tuesday. Selectmen take back the Simes House

The fate of the Simes House is now in the hands of the town and town meeting. In a 3-1 vote, the Board of Selectmen voted to take the historic home back from the foundation which had worked to restore it. The Community Preservation Committee will come before fall town meeting to ask for $1.1 million to finish the project, according to Chairman Bill Keohan. The foundation, he said, still has $700,000 in its account, which would be used to install a fire suppression system, he said. (more…) Continue Reading →

On Saturday April 11, Stowell’s will donate 50 percent of profit from sales to the Simes House Foundation. Simes House Easter Egg Hunt postponed to Sunday

Due to the weather forecast of snow on Saturday, March 28, the Simes House Easter Egg Hunt will be postponed to Sunday, March 29 at 2 p.m.
