Plymouth South Middle School cleans up

Peer Leaders from Plymouth South Middle as well as some staff participated in the Home Town Clean Up Day on November 3. Students and staff spent the day cleaning up the PSMS and PSHS campuses. Manomet Elementary students learn about voting and veterans

Indian Brook third graders visit Manomet Center

The third graders of Indian Brook visited the Manomet Center for Environmental Studies. The students saw a brown creeper in one of the nets on the property and watched as the scientist carefully took the bird from the net and bagged it for tagging and release back into the wild. The scientists explained the tagging process, showing the importance of identifying trends in bird migration and populations, and brought out several birds to release in front of the students. Down on the farm with Indian Brook first graders

Indian Brook’s first graders visited Coonamessett Farm in Falmouth to learn about local agriculture and, for some of the students, take a first look at a working farm. The students toured the gardens and greenhouses and visited with the farm animals, including the chickens, goats, turkeys and alpacas, learning that each has an important role on the farm.  The visit ended with each student harvesting a pumpkin to bring home with them. Manomet Mystery Riders award scholarship

College information night for parents

The Plymouth High Schools' Guidance Departments invite parents and guardians of seniors to a combined college planning information meeting September 28 from 7-9 p.m. at the Plymouth North High School Auditorium. This will be an opportunity to learn how guidance counselors are assisting students through the application and admissions process. There will also be information provided to help parents guide their children through a challenging process. Since the counselors met with students last year, and a "College Application Process" workshop will be presented to seniors this fall, this program is for parents and guardians only.

Plymouth South students paint their ‘caves’

As part of their study of ancient humans, Kelly Browne's 6th graders at Plymouth South Middle School created "cave paintings" to represent their lives today. After a virtual visit to the famous painted caves in Lascaux, France, students discussed the motivations of these ancient people to leave their mark upon the world. Students crawled into their "caves" and left their own marks through symbols of their daily lives. Images of family, holiday celebrations, sports, music, theater and pets represent the things they love most.

Advanced learning program kicks off at Plymouth South Middle School

The Plymouth South Middle School Advanced Learning Opportunities Program is underway for the fall 2011 semester. This intensive program, under the direction of Amanda Hough and Sharon Cumiskey, meets for 10 Monday afternoons to challenge students with learning a new skill or body of knowledge. The classes that students could choose from include electronic engineering, cartooning, JAG-TV production, Green & Gold Gazette, the math and science of sewing, Model UN and and mathletes. MCAS scores in ELA and math determined a pool of 300 students from grades 6 – 8 who qualified to apply. These students were notified in August. Continue Reading →

Manomet Elementary students learn about first responders

Manomet Elementary School welcomed District Social Studies Coordinator Kathy Babini for a special presentation. She conducted an assembly for first graders to enrich their understanding of the important work first responders do in the community in an effort to highlight their work as a way of commemorating their heroism during the events of September 11. The first graders will be presenting their local firehouse with cookies as a way of saying thank you for the work they do.

Snacks for nervous parents at Manomet Elementary School

Manomet Elementary School welcomed parents of incoming kindergarten students on their children's first day of school with the annual "Boo-Hoo Breakfast" and "Boo-Hoo Brunch."
After the children went to their classrooms, parents enjoyed snacks during a one-hour session that provided a chance for them to meet other parents and learn about the many different events and opportunities coming throughout the year.

Crazy Hat Day at Manomet Elementary

 Manomet Elementary School recently celebrated Crazy Hat Day.  Students were encouraged to create and wear their crazy hats to school to raise money for the 5th grade’s annual field trip to Sturbridge Village.

Superintendent shares his dream with Manomet students

Dr. Gary Maestas talks to Manomet Elementary School students about his plan to ride his bike from Washington, D.C. to Plymouth. When Nicole Manfredi of the Plymouth Education Foundation asked the assembled students of Manomet Elementary School if they loved riding their bikes,everyone raised their hand. When she asked if they had dreams, they raised their hands.
