Road rage leads to arrest on Route 3

State police arrested a South Plymouth man in connection with a road rage incident involving the operators of two vehicles on Route 3 Northbound near exit 5 in Plymouth, Sunday afternoon. According to a press release from the state police, troopers stopped the two vehicles and conducted an investigation.  The investigation led to the arrest of  Mark Moran, 57, of Plymouth. Initial indications are that during the confrontation with the other operator, Moran allegedly struck the other vehicle several times with a baseball bat, according to state police. UPDATED: Insects to blame for dying pines, state planning to take down dead trees off Route 3

The stand of dead evergreens lining exit 3 of Route 3 in the Pine Hills are slated to come down in the near future, according to a spokesman for the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. An insect called the red pine scale is culprit, according to Plymouth Parks and Forestry Superintendent Ted Bubbins. Unfortunately, there’s nothing that can be done to stop it, he said. Cape Cod woman hurt in Route 3 crash

An East Falmouth woman was taken to the hospital following a rollover accident on Route 3, Friday morning. According to Capt. John Rogers, the driver, 54, was traveling north, just past Exit 3, when she was allegedly cut-off by a silver SUV. She reportedly swerved into the breakdown lane, her car then rolled over, landing on the passenger side. The woman was able to climb out of her vehicle, but was taken to Jordan Hospital as a precaution. The driver of the silver SUV did not stop after the accident. Continue Reading →

Excessive speed possible factor in Route 3 fatality

A 49-year-old New Bedford man was killed Monday afternoon when his truck flipped over on Route 3 south, just north of exit 3.According to the state police, Christopher E. Richert’s 2001 GMC Sierra pick-up was traveling southbound when it  left the road and entered the center median. The vehicle struck several trees, rolled over, and came   to rest on the driver’s side.  He was not wearing a seat belt.Richert was pronounced dead at the scene.The investigation is ongoing, but excessive speed and mechanical problems are seen as possible factors in the crash.According to Wicked Local Plymouth, the vehicle was a A commercial box-style pickup operated by Green Pond Fish ’N Gear, based in Falmouth.
