Voters will see many choices for Town Meeting in the Pinehills, not as many in Manomet

Voters in Precinct 15 can expect a relatively crowded field in the race for Town Meeting this year. Guy Roy, Richard Caproni, Marcus McGraw, Keven Joyce and Richard Nealey are running in precinct 15, which largely encompasses the Pinehills. All five candidates have returned their papers. Saturday is Election Day

Saturday, May 9 is election day in Plymouth. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Incumbent Ken Tavares is being challenged by Eric Dykeman for a three-year term on the Board of Selectmen. Manomet residents Betty Cavacco and Harry Salerno, along with Pinehills resident Shelagh Joyce,  are running against Kevin Canty and David Malaguti for a one-year term on the board. Joe Bethune Motorcycle Run takes place August 10

The Plymouth Moose Lodge hosts the fifth  annual Joe Bethune Motorcycle run, Saturday, August  10. The ride is in memory of Petty Officer Joseph E. Bethune of Plymouth,  who died in 2008 in a motorcycle accident. Bethune was actively involved in the Moose Lodge. Admission fees collected will go to the Joe Bethune Scholarship Fund for Plymouth High School students. The ride will start at the lodge at 601 State Road, Manomet, at noon  and return later in the afternoon, followed by dinner and dancing beginning at  7 p.m. Admission is $20. Continue Reading →

DeCoste attends Citizen’s Legislative Seminar

 

Jack De Coste of Plymouth participated in the 69th Citizens’ Legislative Seminar (CLS) on Monday, October 15
and Tuesday, October 16 at the State House. “The Citizens’ Legislative Seminar gives constituents from the Plymouth and Barnstable District and across the Commonwealth a unique opportunity to learn about the legislative process, right on the Senate floor,” State Senator Therese Murray said. “I’m going to reach out to people like myself who are senior citizens about this program,” De Coste said. “It’s never too late to continue the learning process, and to learn more about life in general, but especially about their government and how it operates.”

Established in 1976 through a collaborative effort of the Massachusetts Senate and the University. of Massachusetts, the two-day seminar features presentations by Senators and staff on aspects of the day-to-day experience of legislators in the Commonwealth. Continue Reading →

Lack of flight restrictions over nuclear power plant concerns committee (with video)

Paul Rifkin, a Cotuit resident and an opponent of the relicensing of the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station, recently took photographs of it from a helicopter. Seaview Drive man arrested for OUI

A Manomet man was arrested for drunk driving after allegedly hitting a telephone pole on State Road late Tuesday night. According to Capt. John Rogers, a patrolman was monitoring traffic at Four Corners when he heard a loud banging and scraping. He reportedly found a truck parked haphazardly in the parking lot of 7-Eleven. The driver, Stephen Hackett, 32, of Seaview Drive was, Rogers said, sitting in the vehicle, smoking a cigarette. He was also allegedly intoxicated, based on the officer’s investigation. Cash and jewelry stolen from three homes

Three burglaries were reported on Clifford and Doten Roads, Tuesday. According to Capt. John Rogers, police are investigating the robberies and do have a potential suspect. The burglar was able to force entry, and cash and jewelry were reported stolen in all three cases, Rogers said.   Continue Reading →

Indian Brook kids promote voting

Indian Brook Elementary School Henry White, Hannah Maddeford, Ainslee Mac Varish, Matthew Cassidy, Sophie Machernis, Jackus Machernis, Naythen Ruehs, Isabella Romboldi, Sterling Lewis and Leo Shore attended the Board of Selectmen meeting last week. Hurley named PSHS female athlete of the week

Group effort earns PSHS Male Athlete of the week honors

The Male Athlete of the Week is the entire offensive line for the football team. Included are seniors Derek Anderson, Connor Rossi, Dillan Halpin and Ryan Madden, along with juniors Shaun Duncombe and Brendan Harty.  The dominating efforts of this group of young men were key in the 49-14 win for the Panthers over rival Sandwich High School. During the game South’s offense rushed for over 400 yards which paved the way for seven rushing touchdowns.  Their blocking was integral for the success of the entire team. Continue Reading →

Out of town visitor finds wrong place for a nap

A New York man was arrested for drunk driving Sunday evening after police found him, apparently napping, in the Plymouth South High School parking lot. According to Capt. John Rogers, officers were responding to a report of a vehicle that had been parked at the school for half an hour. Police allegedly found Matthew O’Leary, 39, of East Patchogue, N.Y., slumped over in his car. The engine was running and the radio playing, Rogers said.
