Plymouth South Middle School students kick off fundraiser for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

Plymouth South Middle School, led by Student Council, has kicked off Pennies for Patients, a three week fundraiser that raises money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  
In the past two years that the school has participated in the event, over $8,700 has been raised. In 2015 PSMS was one of the top five fundraising schools in New England. Homerooms will raise money for cancer research while competing for a pasta lunch donate by the Olive Garden. (more…) Continue Reading →

Plymouth South Middle School students talk about reading with Patriots’ wide receiver

On Tuesday, December 20, Grade 5 at Plymouth South Middle School took part in a “Read with Malcolm” Skype session with New England Patriots’ rookie wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell.  
Mitchell, who struggled as a reader his entire life, discussed the importance of reading and becoming a better reader. When Mitchell was injured in 2012, he realized he had to put more attention into his reading game. Mitchell recently wrote a children’s book called “The Magician’s Hat” and started the Share the Magic Foundation, a nonprofit organization that aims to promote the long-term benefits of reading and book ownership among students in Title I schools and underserved communities.

PSMS Halloween fundraiser collects donations for local food pantries

Plymouth South Middle School teachers and students collect over 400 books

The the Plymouth South Middle School IMC, in conjunction with Student Council, collected over 400 books for last week’s book drive. Adult books will be donated to Lucas Coppola’s “Stories for Soldiers” and the remainder of the books collected will be donated to Big Hearted Books and the Ocean Village Bookstore in Marshfield, a division of Road to Responsibility. Plymouth South Middle School offers music and a meal to area seniors

On Thursday, April 7 the Festival of the Arts, 5th and 6th Grade Band Concert and the annual Student Council-hosted Pasta Dinner for the Council on Aging combined to offer something for everyone at Plymouth South Middle School. Student Council members served over 50 guests a pasta dinner while they enjoyed music, trivia and entertainment provided by various instrumental ensembles. Following the dinner the seniors, along with parents and friends,  were invited to tour the halls to view student-created artwork at the Festival of the Arts before settling in to enjoy the music of the 5th and 6th grade band and string ensemble. PSMS students raise $2,700 for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

Pennies for Patients, Plymouth South Middle School’s three-week drive to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, came to a close Friday, March 18. The drive raised over $2,700 all of which will be donated to LLS. The 6th graders of Miss Wilson’s homeroom won a pasta lunch catered by the Olive Garden for raising a total of $815.15. PSMS students collect 226 pairs of jeans for the homeless

OPINION: Plymouth schools need to improve emergency communications with parents

As you may know, this week a string of bomb threats were made in Plymouth and several other towns throughout the eastern part of the Commonwealth. My husband and I have a daughter in 8th grade at Plymouth South Middle School, one of the schools targeted. To PSMS’s credit, the school sent a voice alert to our home phone and sent out an e-mail notification within a couple of hours of the threat, after officials confirmed that there were no explosives on site. Julianne Morse is PSMS student ambassador

Eighth-grader Julianne Morse was selected as the Plymouth South Middle Scho Student Ambassador for Project 351, a community service program sponsored by the Governor’s Office. Julianne will join Governor Charlie Baker and her fellow ambassadors–one from each district in the Commonwealth–at the State House for a day of service learning and community organization this Saturday, January 16th. UPDATED: Bomb threat disrupts classes at Plymouth South Middle School,FBI investigating

Police were called to Plymouth South Middle School Tuesday morning following an alleged bomb threat. Students were not evacuated as police checked the building, according to Captain John Rogers. According to Principal Steven Morgenweck, students were assembled at a central location while police and fire officials went through the building. School bus hit by alleged drunk driver

No one was hurt after an alleged drunk driver hit a Plymouth South Middle School bus Tuesday afternoon in Vallersville. Jacob Bethune, 30, of Center Road rear-ended the bus in the area of State Road and Bellevue Drive, according to Lieutenant Dana Flynn. Bethune then reportedly backed up and continued on his way. Emily Swartz Memorial Fund sends PSMS students to see ‘A Christmas Carol’

Plymouth South Middle School seventh graders took a class-wide trip to the Zeiterion Theater in New Bedford last week to see its production of “A Christmas Carol.” The trip was completely funded by the Emily Swartz Memorial Fund. The fund, established in memory of Emily who passed away in 2013, pledges, among other generosities, to send the PSMS Class of 2021 on a grade-wide arts endeavor each year through their senior year in high school.   Continue Reading →

Plymouth South Middle School honors veterans

On Tuesday, November 10, the Plymouth South Middle School 5th and 6th grade choruses presented a Veteran’s Day Ceremony to honor the friends and family of PSMS students who have served, or are currently serving, in the military. Chorus Director Lea Tyler coordinated the program which included the history of Veteran’s Day presented by Kathryn Kenny, Kaleigh Lizotte, and Erin O’Neil, the singing of the “Star Spangled Banner,”  “Song for the Unsung Hero,” and “Thank You, Soldiers.”  5th grade student also recited poems they had written in honor of the veterans. PSMS principals get wet to fight ALS

Plymouth South Middle School Principal Steven Morgenweck and Vice Principals Virginia Marconi and Joseph Murphy took one for the team last week, allowing students to pour ice water over their heads in support of ALS research. The PSMS Student Council in turn, made a donation to Compassionate Care ALS, a non-profit organization based in Falmouth which helps families and patients struggling with the effects of the fatal disease. Relay Recess at Plymouth South Middle School

June 18 marked the 4th Annual “Relay Recess” at Plymouth South Middle School, a community service project organized by the 6th grade students to benefit the American Cancer Society.
