Courtney Carroll named PSHS Athlete of the Week

Junior Courtney Carroll remains unbeaten at No. 1 singles for the Girls’ Tennis team. At the halfway point in the regular season, Courtney is 10-0 in matches and has not lost a set this season. Courtney had a big week getting wins over two of the Patriot League’s top players from Duxbury and Scituate.  Her win in a close match at Duxbury sealed the Panther’s 3-2 victory. Continue Reading →

Plymouth South seniors film wins honors

Plymouth South High School Seniors Nolan Badore, Grace Coon, Nathan Spinetti, Aspen Scaranari, Mel Rose, Becca Gabbett, Sydni Dabkowski and Jordan Young finished in 7th place at the Nationwide 10 Day Film Festival.  
They also took home the award for Best Cinematography and finished in the top three for Best Poster and Best Cinematic Technique.  For this contest, the students were given only 10 days to write a script, make a storyboard, film, edit and create a poster.

PSHS Senior Erin Bernard receives vo-tech honor

Erin Bernard, a senior at Plymouth South High School, received the Outstanding Vocational Technical Student of the year award from the  Massachusetts Association of Vocational Administrators and the Massachusetts Vocational Association.

Town Meeting votes to build new ball fields for Plymouth South High School

Town Meeting overwhelmingly approved borrowing $3.1 million dollars to build two artificial turf fields for the new Plymouth South High School, Saturday morning. A portion of that money, up to $1.8 million, would be reimbursed to the town once the PSHS project is officially completed in September 2018. Plymouth South High DECA students earn places at national conference

 

Plymouth South High School students Brianna Johnson, Nicole Mullally and Allysia Tavekelian earned Gold Level Certification in School Based Enterprise at the recently held State DECA Conference. 
 
That qualified them for the International DECA Conference in Anaheim, CA at the end of April. Joining them will be Brianna Lonergan and Alec Medeiros who won third place for the public relations category. (more…) Continue Reading →

Maestas makes case for borrowing more money to build fields at new Plymouth South High

As Town Meeting nears, school officials pitched their plan for additional turf fields at the new Plymouth South High School, Monday night. The school department wants to borrow an additional $3.7 million to pay for the fields, which would be located where the current high school building stands, But, those in attendance at Plymouth South Middle School seemed less interested in the cost and more interested in what they would be like. Selectmen support new athletic fields at Plymouth South High School

Selectmen voted Tuesday to support borrowing $3.7 million dollars to pay for building new athletic fields at Plymouth South High School, a month after putting off a vote on the same request. Superintendent Gary Maestas said he anticipated that up to $1.8 million of the sum would be repaid from the Plymouth South High School building project’s contingency fund after it was officially complete. The school department is looking into a deal to install solar panels at the school to pay for the lights. The field would be used by the soccer, lacrosse, baseball and softball teams.

PSHS student allegedly threatens graduation

Police are investigating an alleged threat to graduation made by a Plymouth South High School student. According to Lieutenant Dana Flynn, the 16-year-old male threatened to “shoot up graduation.” It wasn’t clear which graduation he was referring to or how serious the threat was. WICKED LOCAL: Plymouth DPW proposes $34 million water expansion, wells would be at PSHS and Forges Field

There’s plenty of water in Plymouth, but there’s just not enough. Though Plymouth sits on one of the largest and purest sources of drinking water in Massachusetts – the Plymouth-Carver aquifer – it’s going to take a $34 million dollar expansion to meet the needs of the town’s near-term expected population growth, provide emergency redundancy, and plan for long-term sustainability. Plymouth South High School Male Athlete of the Week Andrew Wagner placed 4th at Saturday’s Massachusetts State Coaches Meet in the 55 hurdles with a time of 8.00, the 9th best time in the state and 2nd fastest in school history.

PSHS students go to DC for the presidential inauguration

Forty-one Plymouth South High School Students, along with four teachers, attended last week’s inauguration of President Donald Trump. Besides the inauguration itself, The students visited the National Museum of American History, the National Archives and the Newseum on Thursday. Selectmen think additional PSHS ballfield can wait

Selectmen voted to hold off on putting more money into the new Plymouth South High School. School department officials came before the Board of Selectmen Tuesday night, asking that more money be borrowed for the project in order to build an artificial turf field, along with lighting and drainage. The field would be used by the soccer, baseball and softball teams.

Cam McPhee named PSHS Male Athlete of the Week

Cam McPhee has had an outstanding week for the Plymouth South boy’s hockey team, earning him Plymouth South High School Male Athlete of the Week honors. 

Cam earned a shutout in back-to-back games against Bishop Stang and last year’s division 3 state champions, Hanover.  Hanover was previously undefeated coming into this game as well.  He made 62 saves over the two games and his current shutout streak stands at just over 90 minutes of play. Michael Whyte is this week’s Plymouth South High School Male Athlete of the Week. Mike, who is currently ranked 5th in the state, competes in the 152 pound weight class on the wrestling team and has a record of 15-1.
