Selectmen voted Tuesday to support borrowing $3.7 million dollars to pay for building new athletic fields at Plymouth South High School, a month after putting off a vote on the same request. Superintendent Gary Maestas said he anticipated that up to $1.8 million of the sum would be repaid from the Plymouth South High School building project’s contingency fund after it was officially complete. The school department is looking into a deal to install solar panels at the school to pay for the lights. The field would be used by the soccer, lacrosse, baseball and softball teams.

Police are investigating an alleged threat to graduation made by a Plymouth South High School student. According to Lieutenant Dana Flynn, the 16-year-old male threatened to “shoot up graduation.” It wasn’t clear which graduation he was referring to or how serious the threat was. Selectmen voted to hold off on putting more money into the new Plymouth South High School. School department officials came before the Board of Selectmen Tuesday night, asking that more money be borrowed for the project in order to build an artificial turf field, along with lighting and drainage. Cam McPhee has had an outstanding week for the Plymouth South boy’s hockey team, earning him Plymouth South High School Male Athlete of the Week honors.
Cam earned a shutout in back-to-back games against Bishop Stang and last year’s division 3 state champions, Hanover. Hanover was previously undefeated coming into this game as well. Plymouth South High School Senior Fallon Mell, who finished second in the 2016 Massachusetts Marine Educators Art Contest, is featured on the cover of this year’s 2017 Marine Art Contest Rule Book.
Her prize-winning artwork will be included in a 2016-2017 calendar, and her piece will be on display in a traveling art show throughout the region.
