WICKED LOCAL: Nuclear decommissioning panel members call meeting on their own

Two weeks ago the first meeting of the state’s Nuclear Decommissioning Citizens Advisory Panel ended on a sour note when a motion to set the date for the next meeting – and create an agenda – was ignored by the commission’s acting chairman, Department of Public Utilities Secretary Angela O’Connor, who after an otherwise open and frank discussion by panel members and the audience abruptly adjourned the meeting. Panel learns about the decommissioning options at Pilgrim Station

Despite some rancor between its members, the Nuclear Decommissioning CItizens Advisory Panel did learn something about how the shutdown of Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station might proceed. “The first step is to  have a plan,” Pilgrim’s Government Affairs Manager, Joe Lynch, told the panel. To that end, he said, a team will be formed at the plant to oversee decommissioning while the remainder of the staff will remain focused on operating it.
