Creators of Manomet’s new wildlife sanctuary celebrate long road to completion

After years of planning and preparation, the Tidmarsh Wildlife Sanctuary in Manomet is almost ready for visitors. Saturday, the land’s former owners, Evan Schulman and Glorianna Davenport celebrated the completion of the project with a gathering in what was once a cranberry bog. Only a week earlier, the land had become the property of Mass Audubon, which will now manage it. There are still a few details to be worked out before visitors are welcomed onto the land in early November. People driving on Beaver Dam Road have probably noticed the signs that have gone up, as well as the disappearance of the red garage that used to sit across from the former cranberry bog on the west side of the road. Mass Audubon to buy Tidmarsh Farms

Mass Audubon has reached its fundraising goal and will be able to purchase the Tidmarsh Farms in Manomet. According to a post on the organization’s website, the group has raised the $3.6 million it needed. It plans to finalize the sale later this summer and open it to the public sometime in the fall.   Continue Reading →

Tidmarsh Farms isn’t open to the public…yet

Tidmarsh Farms East isn’t open for business quite yet. Residents used to walking the property before its restoration, sometimes with their pets, have been venturing back onto the site now that the earth-moving equipment has been removed, according to Tidmarsh Farms Trustee Glorianna Davenport.  Now that the big trucks have left, the project has shifted focus to planting in upland areas, which Davenport called a “sensitive time for the project” in an e-mail. Mass Audubon looks for support to take over Tidmarsh Farms

Mass Audubon wants to take over Tidmarsh Farms, the nearly complete 600-acre ecological restoration project in Manomet, and turn it into its newest wildlife sanctuary. Tidmarsh Farms walk postponed until Sunday, October 2

The tour of Tidmarsh Farms, scheduled for Saturday, October 1 has been postponed to Sunday, October 2 due to the rain expected on Saturday. Tidmarsh Farms’ owners and Mass Audubon naturalists will lead a guided walk and talk about Tidmarsh Farms, the site of the largest freshwater restoration in Massachusetts and a potential new Mass Audubon wildlife sanctuary.
