Zoning change may be needed for Simes House

Making the Simes House a sustainable operation will be next to impossible without a zoning change, Manomet Village Common Incorporated Chairman John Moody told the Board of Selectmen, Tuesday night. Manomet Village Common Inc., which was created by several prominent Manometians, was the sole bidder for the contract to manage the historic home. Moody described how the group planned to generate the funds needed to keep it operating. But, given the current zoning, the group is reluctant to commit to the planned five-year lease. Medical problem blamed for Manomet cliff crash

Police are citing a medical issue as the reason a 58-year-old Abington man drove his car off a Manomet cliff, Sunday afternoon. According to Captain John Rogers, the driver was seen heading slowly down Strand Avenue, he then crashed through the wooden fence guarding a small grass area at the intersection of Strand and Manomet Avenues. Mass Audubon to buy Tidmarsh Farms

Mass Audubon has reached its fundraising goal and will be able to purchase the Tidmarsh Farms in Manomet. According to a post on the organization’s website, the group has raised the $3.6 million it needed. It plans to finalize the sale later this summer and open it to the public sometime in the fall.   Continue Reading →

Canadian company says Manomet is choice for power line landing site

Emera, a Canadian company looking to build a 900 megawatt power cable from New Brunswick, Canada, to Massachusetts told the Board of Selectmen that Plymouth is their choice for a landing spot. The company had also considered Lynn, but Plymouth’s receptiveness to hosting the cable gave it the edge, Robin McAdam of Emera said at Tuesday night’s meeting. WICKED LOCAL: Motorcyclist seriously injured in Manomet crash

A motorcyclist suffered serious head injuries Thursday night in a crash in a Manomet development. Police said the 26-year-old man was not wearing a helmet when his motorcycle crashed into a portable basketball hoop on Shallow Pond Lane at 6:37 p.m.

WICKED LOCAL: Judge dismisses sex trafficking charges against Plymouth man

A Superior Court judge has dismissed charges against a local official accused of sex trafficking and running a house of ill fame. Judge Angela Kelley Brown dismissed both charges against Douglas Crociati, ruling that prosecutors leading a 2015 investigation into misconduct at local massage parlors “recklessly disregarded the truth” in seeking indictments against the local airport commissioner. Beaver Dam Road fire sends one to hospital

An alleged case of smoking in bed lead to one person being taken to the hospital and eight people forced from their home following a fire on Beaver Dam Road, Friday morning. According to Chief Ed Bradley, firefighters were called to the home near Minuteman Lane at about 8:21 a.m. where they found the fire in a second floor bedroom of the duplex.  A 53-year-old Manomet woman was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Plymouth, and then to a Boston hospital, suffering from smoke inhalation and burns to her hand, Bradley said. Several Manomet and Pinehills residents seeking town office

Manomet and Pinehills residents will see competitive races for Town Meeting this election season. In Precinct 6, incumbents Colleen Coughlin, Paul Francis and Megan Collins-Dempster are being challenged by Cheryl Fischer and Maureen Renaud. In Precinct 7, Nathan Segal is running against incumbents Jeanette Kelly, Robert Materna and Karen Buechs. While Precinct 15, is guaranteed to see at least one new face at Town Meeting as Mark Leppo, Anatol Zukerman and Gilbert Paul are running against incumbents John DeCoste and Joseph Curley. Pembroke man charged with assaulting high point staff

A Pembroke man was arrested after allegedly assaulting two staff people at the High Point Treatment Center in Manomet, Thursday afternoon. Barry Sylvester, 47, was being discharged from the facility due to his allegedly combative behavior while a patient there, Lieutenant Dana Flynn said. Before leaving, he reportedly demanded “one more treatment” and then got violent when staff refused, Flynn explained. (more…) Continue Reading →
