IRS scam snares Pinehills woman

A Pinehills woman fell victim to a tax season phone scam, Friday afternoon. According to Captain John Rogers, the 65-year-old woman received a call from someone claiming to be from the IRS and stating she owed back taxes. Credit car scam catches local business

A small  business in Manomet was defrauded out of about $200 after falling for a phone scam, Friday. According to Captain John Rogers, the businesses received a call from someone saying they were collecting $5 “for the town.” The victim, he said, provided a credit card number, which the caller then used to steal more money. Alleged bank fraud scheme stopped at the Pinehills

A pair of Bridgeport, Connecticut men who had allegedly opened fraudulent bank accounts at several Massachusetts TD Bank branches saw their plan come to an end at the Pinehills, Thursday afternoon. According to Captain John Rogers, staff at the Pinehills branch had been alerted to the alleged scheme when Raul Samola, 36, reportedly tried to open an account at the branch. A Pinehills woman is out over a $1,000 after she fell victim to a phone scam on Friday. According to Captain John Rogers, the woman got a call from someone calling claiming to be her granddaughter. The caller said she had been arrested and needed money. The alleged victim wired the money and only later found out she had been duped. Continue Reading →

Pinehills woman falls victim to IRS scam

A 45-year-old Pinehills woman was defrauded of $5,000 in a phone scam, Tuesday morning. According to Lieutenant Dana Flynn, the victim, a Pinehills Drive resident, was called by someone claiming to be from the IRS.  The calls, he said, were very threatening and the victim complied with the caller’s directive to send the money in the form of iTunes gift cards. Manomet, Pinehills hit with rash of fraudulent phone calls

Anyone who got a phone call this weekend from someone claiming to be from the federal government is not alone. The Manomet and Pinehills area was hit with a rash of calls from someone claiming to be from the US Treasury Department. The caller, according to Captain John Rogers, would tell the would-be victim that they owed back taxes and faced jail time. No one, Rogers said, fell for the scam.
