Brianna Jones has been named the Plymouth South High School Female Athlete of the Week. In the opening meet against Silver Lake she was 5th overall scoring her first varsity points. In Saturdays invitational in Martha’s Vineyard, Brianna was a medal winner beating her previous best 5 kilometer time by over 5 minutes.

Senior Captain Cam Brenner of the Plymouth South High School Soccer team is the Male Athlete of the Week. He leads the South boys Soccer team in total points, with 2 goals and 1 assist in the home opener against Dennis-Yarmouth. Cam’s ability to play both sides of the ball makes him one of the most complete players in the Patriot league. Plymouth South High School Male Athlete of the Week Andrew Wagner placed 4th at Saturday’s Massachusetts State Coaches Meet in the 55 hurdles with a time of 8.00, the 9th best time in the state and 2nd fastest in school history.

Cam McPhee has had an outstanding week for the Plymouth South boy’s hockey team, earning him Plymouth South High School Male Athlete of the Week honors.
Cam earned a shutout in back-to-back games against Bishop Stang and last year’s division 3 state champions, Hanover. Hanover was previously undefeated coming into this game as well. Mike, who is currently ranked 5th in the state, competes in the 152 pound weight class on the wrestling team and has a record of 15-1. Golfer Shane Richardson is Plymouth South High School Male Athlete of the Week. Shane beat his opponent on Monday by 2 strokes in a win over Middleborough. He also beat his opponent by 6 in the win over Carver and again, he beat his opponent by 2 playing in the number one spot for a win over Scituate. Plymouth South High School Male Athlete of the Week Peter Duncan had a remarkable 48 hours. Thursday night he scored four goals in a 5-0 victory. Less than 48 hours later he scored another in a 4-4 draw against Middleborough. Peter made the switch to forward midway through the year and has recorded nine goals in five games. Continue Reading →
Plymouth South Female Athlete of the Week Milena Manic, a freshmen starter for the varsity volleyball team, has been an important player for the program. Milena is a very consistent server, and one of the best hitters and defenders in the program, leading the team in blocks and kills. Devin Leahy put the offense on his back in a 32-21 loss at Scituate. On the ground, Devin rushed for 168 yards on 22 carries and scored a touchdown. David Trombly has had a great start of the season for the boys cross country team, which makes him the Plymouth South High School Male Athlete of the Week. David has put in a lot of work over the summer to make sure that he is one of the top runners on the team. Despite having some early health issues, David continued to come to practice and work hard. Placing fourth for South against Duxbury was David’s first time placing in the top five. His hard work and dedication are the main reasons for David’s early success. Continue Reading →

Senior Captains Madison Hendry and Colleen Begley earned Plymouth South High School Athlete of the Week honor by setting a new school record for girls’ dDoubles tennis this weekend, making it the third round of the MIAA Individual Tournament. The girls played their best matches of the year on Saturday, getting wins over tough teams from Foxboro (6-4, 6-2) and Bishop Stang (6-3, 6-4). The girls ultimately lost a tough match on Sunday against one of the top teams in the state, but their appearance in the third round is the furthest any Plymouth South doubles teams have ever gotten. Jared Bernal placed 2nd in the 200 meters at Greater New Bedford Invitational earning him honors as this week’s Plymouth South High School Male Athlete of the Week. He is undefeated in dual meets for 2016. He also runs on the undefeated 4x100m relay. Katie Romanovicz is the Plymouth South High School Female Athlete of the Week. She has been a four-year member of the spring track team and is a captain this year. At Sunday’s division 2 state relays, Katie was a member of the 4×100 meter shuttle hurdle relay team that won first place and set a new meet record of 1:04.23. Last week Chris Elliot pitched South to a win against Whitman Hanson throwing seven innings, giving up two runs and striking out four. That earned him Plymouth South High School Male Athlete of the Week honors. In that game Chris also went 2 for 4 at the plate, scoring two runs and driving in two others. Sophomore Courtney Carroll is off to a 5-0 start at No. 1 singles this season for the girl’s tennis team. On top of being unbeaten, Courtney has also only lost three games in her first five matches. Courtney started the season by shutting out her Hingham opponent (8-0 – rain shortened match). She continued on her roll with four more big wins in five days, beating her opponents at Pembroke (6-0, 6-1), Quincy (6-0, 6-0), Sacred Heart (6-0, 6-1), and Middleboro(6-1, 6-0). Sophomore goalie Viktor Wright lead the Plymouth South High boys lacrosse team to two straight victories over April break. The B team beat Silver Lake 5-3 and Dennis-Yarmouth 7-5. Jaiden Andrews placed 2nd in the 55 meter hurdles at Saturday’s Patriot League meet, earning her Plymouth South High School Athlete of the Week honors. At this point last year Jaiden had never ever gone over a hurdle and now she is one of the top 20 in the state.
