A South Plymouth man was arrested for allegedly driving while stoned Friday night.
According to Captain John Rogers, an officer patrolling in West Plymouth reportedly saw a car being driven by Austin Ward, 19, of Bay Colony Drive fail to stop at a sign on Carver Road. Ward, Rogers said, then allegedly slowed down, but didn’t stop at the light at Seven Hills Road and Samoset Street.
The officer eventually stopped Ward, who had been driving very slowly, on Samoset Street, Rogers said. The officer allegedly noticed a strong smell of marijuana in the car and Ward was unresponsive, Rogers added.
Due to his condition, Ward was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Plymouth. He was later charged with OUI, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and failure to stop for police.
