When I did the renovation of the house at the time, I chose to use LED recessed ceiling lights instead of traditional lamps. A question of taste, comfort and price, everything has to be said. An advantage that however prevented me from adapting the lighting with connected LED bulbs like those that can be used in lamps.

A limitation that can end if in the end the LED lighting system that I install at home works and whose wireless connection to the phone will allow me to create different environments in the living room without having to get up from the sofa. This has been the installation process and this is the result.

Install what is gerund

Old LEDs to be replaced and new model with RGB system

To install the new LED lights, the process was not complicated. He comenzado por probar el rendimiento con tres unidades en una zona del salón con la que se puede crear una luz ambiente a la hora de ver por ejemplo una serie o una película y si el resultado es óptimo me plantearé dar el salto a otras zonas de House.

An installation without complications, because given the type of anchoring used by these luminaires, I only had to remove the ring from the ceiling, in my case pladul, to proceed with the change.

Once I removed the ring, the next step was to disconnect the LED light, for which and taking into account its hanging system, it suffices to make a half turn for the lamp holder to be released. .

Because only the thickness of the LED light varies in height, there is no need to perform any additional operation, other than changing it in the clamping ring and re-anchoring it to the ceiling using the two hooks with springs that each has on the side. .

Once installed, I downloaded the Laes Smart app from my mobile or tablet, an app available for iOS and Android, and paired each of the three installed lights in a process that didn’t pose any problem, since the application immediately detects connected lights.

I would have preferred them to use Wi-Fi so that they could integrate them into an app or skill in Apple’s Google Home, Alexa, or HomeKit, but in this case I just relied on the bluetooth connection and its range was one of my fears.

Once we have placed the light (s) that we are going to use, we just need to turn them on with the wall switch and activate Bluetooth and the data connection on the mobile. We enter the LAES Smart app and we will see how all the powered LED bulbs or lights appear at that time.

Once inside the app, we can adjust the intensity of the light, the heat of the lighting offered by the bulb, opt for RGB or even colors, and that’s what got me surprised, get a disco effect for the lights to change according to the music recorded by the microphones of our device, whether it is mobile or tablet.

We can even play with the lights and have them act together, as a whole, as well as independently as well as establish schedules so that they turn on or off at a certain time.

The operation with blocks (we can establish lighting sets), allows that with just one touch the lighting can be synchronized in all the lights without having to repeat step by step.

The control is total and my fear, the range of the Bluetooth connection with the mobile as a remote control was the only doubt I had. In the end I did the test and was able to easily control the lighting from an adjoining room.

Light intensity

Not only can we play with the colors, but we can also achieve a greater or lesser degree of heat in the light, something that with the model I had before, it was impossible.

In this way and in the same luminaire we find different options. With a warm light which, due to its color temperature, makes it offer tones close to yellow or orange while the cold one is that which has a tone close to blue. Light sources in the middle of the two are considered neutral.

In my case, I opted for a light fixture on a scale close to 3000K (3856K to be exact), which seeks to achieve a warmer atmosphere, a light that also goes very well with light colored furniture. Here are the three scales that we can manipulate in terms of brightness:

Warm light: (Between 2800K and 3500K). It is equivalent to the light produced by incandescent bulbs and halogen bulbs. Most used for rooms such as living room and bedrooms. Neutral light: (Between 3800K and 4500K). It is considered the most natural light. Cold light: (More than 5000K). It is equivalent to the light of a very sunny or cloudy day. It is the most used in kitchens and bathrooms although they are losing ground in the latter in favor of warmer ones which offer a better range of colors.

The set of three bulbs that I used is signed LAES and I replaced the previous ones, from the Osram brand. The price of the three LED lights was 62 euros.

In summary I must admit that the purchase was more than satisfactory considering the fears with which it came. The range of the Bluetooth connection was the main question, but also whether it would provide good brightness in neutral or warm tones, which in this case these bulbs do perfectly. Of course, as I said before, I would have preferred a Wi-Fi connection or an integration with a platform like Alexa, Google or HomeKit to be able to interact with the lighting remotely.
