We’ve seen Android Auto apps for watching mobile videos, watching YouTube, and streaming the mobile screen on Android Auto before, but none are as spectacular as Screen2Auto. This app combines a bit of all of the above to turn the Android Auto screen more or less into a tablet.
Screen2Auto uses an ingenious system so that you can open the mobile apps on the car screen, with a special launcher for the occasion and be able to interact with the apps using the touchscreen. Best of all, despite its complexity, it works great.
Download and setup
The first thing you will need to use Screen2Auto is obviously Screen2Auto. The easiest way to install this app is to use the AA Store, an unofficial app store for Android Auto that makes the task quite easy. You can download AA Store from a Telegram channel.
After installing AA Store, open the app and you will find a list of unofficial Android Auto apps ready for download. Tap Screen2Auto, then tap the Install button. If this is your first time using AA Store, you will need to allow the app to use storage and install apps.
Screen2Auto is not very large, so downloading is fast. Once the download is complete, you will need to press Install to start installing the application on the mobile. Before you can use it, you will need to open it to grant it certain permissions necessary for its operation.
Open Screen2Auto on your mobile and you will come across the setup wizard which will show you the many permissions it needs to operate. Despite showing the Root permission in the first place, in our testing the app performed perfectly without root. Some specific functions may or in some cases not work properly without root access.
What you need to do is basically turn on each switch to grant the corresponding permission. The group at the top is required, while the permissions at the bottom are recommended, but not required.
Applications on your mobile, in the car
Now comes the fun part: connect your mobile to Android Auto in the car and open the Screen2Auto app. This displays its own launcher, along with its desktop and app drawer. Unlike the Android Auto launcher, this one contains all the apps you have on your mobile.
Tap any app to open it, but remember that the app is actually running on your mobile and being streamed to the car. To work, the mobile will ask for your permission so that the application can start capturing the screen and broadcasting it. Until you do, you won’t see anything in the car.
To better adapt the mobile screen to the car, Screen2Auto opens the applications in landscape, so that they adapt better to the car screen. Best of all, you can interact with apps and games through the car’s touchscreen. There is a little delay of course, but not much and it is even possible to play a game, with the car parked and safe, of course.
To navigate the apps and go back, you can use the floating button, the functionality of which you can control precisely by opening the Screen2Auto options on your mobile. The application has a large number of settings, allowing you, for example, to adjust the screen resolution.
