Pinehills woman falls victim to IRS scam

A 45-year-old Pinehills woman was defrauded of $5,000 in a phone scam, Tuesday morning.

According to Lieutenant Dana Flynn, the victim, a Pinehills Drive resident, was called by someone claiming to be from the IRS.  The calls, he said, were very threatening and the victim complied with the caller’s directive to send the money in the form of iTunes gift cards.

Federal agencies do not contact people via the phone regarding their tax status.
