Technical workers at Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station have reached agreement on a new contract with Entergy, according to a press release. The five-year agreement ensures that the workers will continue to operate Pilgrim Nuclear during this period.
Louisiana-based Entergy, which owns Pilgrim Nuclear Station will shutter the facility on May 31, 2019. The new contract, which impacts about 85 Pilgrim employees, contains a variety of wage, benefit, retention and severance provisions for workers.
UWUA Local 369 represents about 300 Pilgrim employees. While many workers will immediately lose their jobs when Pilgrim closes in 2019, some employees will remain during the decommissioning process, which can last up to 60 years.
