A few details are still needed before White Horse Rock is ready for the summer.

White Horse Rock aka Flag Rock, got spruced up on Friday, just in time for Independence Day weekend.

An American flag has been painted on the side of the rock since 1940, when, the story goes a group of local teens painted over a swastika that had been appeared on it.  That story was recently recounted at Boston.com.

Since then, the flag has been repainted almost annually. In recent years, the job has been courtesy of local residents Mike Kelly, Phil Hamilton and Robbie Moon, according to Mary Byron.
