With the arrival of Windows 11, one of the changes we saw affected the interface which represents a renewed “Start Menu”. A new aspect that placed said menu in the center of the taskbar and also made it floating. It was possible to recover the aesthetics of Windows 10, at least until very recently.
And it is that Microsoft made it impossible for users, with a little trick, to have Windows 11 but with the “classic” Windows 10 start menu. A trick present in the preliminary Windows 11 leak that cannot be executed with the Build published in the insider program.
The start menu must be floating and centered
With the new Build, Microsoft forces yes or yes to use the floating Start menu centered in the middle of the taskbar, an aesthetic inherited from the abandoned Windows 10X and which we have seen how to emulate using certain third-party applications.
However, the new Windows 10 Start menu could be used with a little trick of changing a value in the registry editor. The interested party can create the value “Start_ShowClassicMode” and set it to 1 in the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER Software Microsoft Windows CurrentVersion Explorer Advanced.
A hack that can no longer be executed in Windows 11 Build 22000.65 that Microsoft posted to the Dev Channel in the Insider Program. The “Registry Editor” trick does not work and at the moment it is not known whether Microsoft will decide in the future that users can opt for the classic “Start Menu” aesthetic or have to forcefully use the floating menu and center.
