Microsoft has announced the release of Windows 11 SE. Similar to what we have already seen in Windows 10 with the threat posed by Windows 10S, with this version of the operating system Microsoft wants to have a product specially dedicated to the education market having a series of differentiating characteristics.

Unlike Windows 11 or even Windows 11 Education in the normal and pro versions, Windows 11 SE comes with a few keys to highlight and that is that for example it will not be sold to the public, but it will be sold professionally to schools , only It will allow the installation of applications by administrators and is designed for low-cost devices.

Surface Laptop SE

The first thing we need to know is that Windows 11 SE will arrive via a series of devices and we will see it that way in machines from Acer, ASUS, Dell, Dynabook, Fujitsu, HP, JK-IP, Lenovo and Positivo. , both with Intel and AMD processors. It’s also available in the new Surface Laptop SE.

The Surface Laptop SE is a team that is growing around an 11.6-inch TFT LCD panel capable of delivering HD resolution that translates to 1366 x 768 pixels. This is a modest computer that includes inside an Intel Celeron N4020 (2 cores and 2 threads) or Celeron N4120 (4 cores and 4 threads) processor as well as 4 or 8 GB of RAM and 64 or 128 GB internal storage eMMC 5.1. This laptop has a 1 megapixel webcam, a USB Type C port, a USB Type A port, a headphone jack and a battery that offers up to 16 hours of battery life.

16 hours in “normal use”

We are faced with a modest team and with the interior hardware which is something that is seen when checking out how it uses a plastic casing, a charging connector which is the typical classic cylindrical port and its connectivity, very limited.

In addition, they ensure that since it is equipment for the educational sector and is accessible, it is sanctioned to facilitate repairs. Clearly, the goal is to stand up to the Chromebooks and ChromeOS duo.

The Surface Laptop SE will be released to schools in the US, Canada, UK, and Japan from early 2022, and hopefully it will start reaching more markets afterwards.

Windows 11 SE for Education

Windows 11 SE is an operating system intended exclusively for education. It will not be sold in stores, only to businesses and educational centers and will be able to run on computers with fairly basic specifications. In fact, it is an operating system designed to run on computers with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage.

Windows 11 SE will come with several preinstalled Microsoft apps including Office, Teams, and OneNote and will also allow the installation of third-party apps, such as Zoom or Chrome, but only by admins.

For tools like OneDrive, files are stored locally, on each device, so students can access them when they’re offline. When they have a network connection, they automatically sync with the cloud.

When it comes to updates, computers update silently. Windows 11 SE can be updated automatically outside of school hours to minimize disruption to lessons.
