Cologne (dpa) – ZDF talker Markus Lanz has been nominated for the German Television Prize. The 52-year-old competes for the coveted trophy with his named talk show, “Markus Lanz”, in the traditional journalist category “Best Information”.

The jury announced it on Wednesday in Cologne. In the info section, the nomination definitely stands out. Two classic political magazines were nominated with Lanz: “Frontal” (ZDF) and “Panorama” (ARD / NDR).

In appreciation of the speaker, it was said that Lanz had “provided information, classification and guidance” in the “puzzling continuous fire of declarations and ordinances of the corona year 2020/21” during his rounds of evening talks. It was an “important contribution to social discourse, especially in times of confinement”.

In total, the nominees for 28 categories were announced on Wednesday. Who will win the TV prize will be revealed at an open-air show in Cologne on September 16. The awards ceremony, hosted by Barbara Schöneberger (47), can be seen on RTL the same evening from 8.15 p.m. Last year there were awards because of the pandemic, but no gala.

What is also remarkable about the 2020/2021 award is that both artists Joko Winterscheidt and Klaas Heufer-Umlauf were nominated with two entries in the same category. You are competing with yourself, so to speak. In the “Best Infotainment” category, they compete with “Joko & Klaas 15 minutes: Men’s Worlds” as well as “Joko & Klaas – Live: Care is # not self-evidence” (both ProSieben). On March 31, the two hosts had their show show the daily life of a nurse in real time. Result: eight hours of unprecedented reality TV.

If you go by the productions with the most nominations, the brewery’s multi-part series “Oktoberfest 1900” (ARD) and the drama series “Para – Wir sind King” are the big favorites of this year’s TV award. Both have five nominations each, including for actors.

“Oktoberfest 1900” actor Mišel Matičević can hope for a “Best Actor” award, Soma Pysall of “Para – Wir sind King” for the “Best Actress” award. The TNT series comes from the creators of the hit “4 Blocks” and is about four friends who grew up in the tough marriage of Berlin. They get into the drug business more by chance.

The German Television Prize has been awarded since 1999 for outstanding television performance. It is offered by RTL, ZDF, Sat.1, ARD and Deutsche Telekom. The jury includes actress and producer Maria Furtwängler (54).

“Despite the production restrictions related to the pandemic, the jury saw a wide variety of topics and materials in excellent implementation across genres,” said jury chairman Wolf Bauer, summarizing the selection process. “A remarkable achievement from the creative team, which, under the special circumstances of the year, cannot be appreciated enough.”
