A Patriot Circle man was arrested early Tuesday morning after allegedly wrecking an Algonquin Heights apartment and holding three people against their will.
Cliff Thomas, 36, allegedly threatened the two women, ages 32 and 30, who lived at the apartment, along with a 40-year-old neighbor, with a knife and baseball bat, according to Captain John Rogers. Thomas also allegedly used the bat to destroy furniture, lamps, and some small electrical devices, he added.
The suspect, Rogers said, allegedly refused to let the three leave. They eventually were able to barricade themselves in a bedroom and call police, he said.
Thomas claims the two women had stolen money from him, Rogers said. He was charged with malicous destruction of property over $250, Three counts of kidnapping, three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, and two counts of assault and battery.
