Man dies in clashes over anti-regime protests in Cuba

A man died in a clash between protesters and security forces on Monday (12) in a neighborhood on the outskirts of Havana, the state agency “Agência Cubana de Notícias” (ACN) reported.

The victim was 36 years old and was participating in a demonstration at the People’s Council of Güinera in the municipality of Arroyo Naranjo, in the south of the capital, as part of the protests against the Cuban regime that began on Sunday in various parts of the country . . Several people were arrested and others were injured, including security forces officers, during clashes in La Güinera, according to the agency.

The NGO Cubalex has reported the detention or disappearance of 148 people since Sunday, 12 of whom have already been released. Among those arrested amid the protests are seven journalists.

The demonstration in this neighborhood, one of Havana’s most disadvantaged neighborhoods, has been publicized in several videos on social networks, although the dictatorship has kept its internet connection cut since Sunday. In the footage, it is possible to observe dozens of people walking through the streets with cries of “freedom” and “the united people will never be defeated”.

According to the “ACN” version, the demonstrators “changed the order and tried to surrender to the national revolutionary police station in the territory with the aim of attacking troops and damaging the facility”.
