Berlin (dpa) – A few weeks before the federal election, Germany’s most famous tabloid brand, Bild, launched its TV channel of the same name. On the first day of broadcast, there were two Sunday night interviews with chancellor candidates Armin Laschet (CDU) and Olaf Scholz (SPD) – all part of a “Chancellor’s Night” on television. A new survey saw the CDU / CSU and the SPD tied at 22% each.
In a special in the “The Right Questions” discussion format, “Bild” Vice President Paul Ronzheimer first spoke with Laschet from 8:15 pm about the debacle in Afghanistan (“If I see that today I should have been more engaged ”) and on the Bundestag election campaign (“ We now realize that it is close. ”). Laschet also revealed that he had only slept for five to six hours and that his wife was surprised.
Ronzheimer also presented Laschet with a German flag to talk about the theme of patriotism. The same happens more often in the conversation format: Months ago Ronzheimer once featured a huge steak on the subject of grilling in a conversation with Green Chancellor candidate Annalena Baerbock.
The studio interview was flanked by a group of spectators with ex-boxer Regina Halmich, ex-football manager Reiner Calmund as well as a bar operator and butcher, who rated the whole thing.
Next, “Bild” moderator Kai Weise spoke with SPD politician Scholz from 9.45pm. He said of the latest poll that he was convinced the SPD had a good and confident program for the future. He also received a German flag.
The free-to-air television program began at 9 am with an extract from the broadcaster’s profile in preview, followed by the first sports program, “The situation of the League”. The studio guest was Hertha BSC sporting director Fredi Bobic.
The show was hosted by longtime “Bild” sports experts Walter M. Straten and Alfred Draxler. At the start of the show, Straten said, “Hello Germany, here we are. You know the image on paper, you also know the digital image and now we have really landed on television. And the beginning, as it should be for Bild, is the sport. We are, so to speak, Bild’s Neil Armstrong on TV. “
The early hours of the program were dominated by football. Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp has been transferred to one of the sports programs via video. In addition to sports topics, he also explained why he currently does not wear glasses, which he previously needed as a severely nearsighted person. This is currently no longer necessary after eye surgery, Klopp said.
The biggest German tabloid wants to offer live reports, documentaries, reports and interviews with the television news channel. The heart of the program will be the “Bild Live” program from 9 am to 2 pm on weekdays. The emphasis is on sports on Sundays. With Bild, the Axel Springer media group now has three TV channels in its portfolio. The other two channels are Welt and N24 Doku. The television broadcaster Bild is to be financed by television advertising revenue. In the program of the first day of broadcast, advertising blocks were already visible.
In the afternoon, the viewer saw reruns of the morning’s sports programs, followed by documentaries, including one on tornadoes. During this time, news tapes with the latest news were shown again and again.
Program director Bild Claus Strunz told the German news agency before the start of the ‘Bild Live’ television program: “We will use this stretch as an anchor point, but we will not fall into the sleep of the documentary afterwards.” You broadcast documentaries, but you’re almost always in live mode when something extraordinary is happening at other times of the day. “So that there is a suction effect and it is better to leave the transmitter on, otherwise you will miss something important.” This is the real idea. “
The program director named “everyone” as the target group, adding: “We know that if we are reaching out to people who already use the Bild brand, we tend to reach more men than women. That’s why we put a lot of emphasis on sport in our program. “
