When women have passed a certain age limit, are they out the window? Something has changed there, thinks Iris Berben. Their motto: “Stronger together”.
Augsburg (dpa) – From the perspective of actress Iris Berben (71), older women now have more opportunities in the film industry than they did some time ago.
“For us, there is no end date,” she said in an interview with “Augsburger Allgemeine” with a view to colleagues like Andie MacDowell (63) or Helen Mirren (76). Along with both American and British actresses, Berben appeared together on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival in July.
“I remember the time when a woman over 40 in the film industry could no longer be at the front,” the newspaper’s Berben said. She now sees the industry on the right track. “Of course, it also has to do with the development of our company. In the past, women retired on their own at 60 or 70, they were like lost in their beige. This has changed, whether in politics, fashion or art. You are seen differently. “
From Berben’s perspective, it’s important to keep working on it. The motto is “empowerment of women”, which in German means something like equality and participation of women.
At the opening of the Cannes Film Festival, Berben had given the example with his dress – we read in French “plus forts ensemble” in large print, in German: “plus forts ensemble”. The “Augsburger Allgemeine” said Berben about this performance: “(…) we still live in the midst of turmoil and uncertainty, and I wanted to make this little statement that we can only do it ‘together – in culture, in society, in the fight against the pandemic, in the totality of the change in which our world finds itself. ”
