Now that the Taliban is in power in Afghanistan, India has drawn up a contingency plan to expel hundreds of its officers and civilians, sparking fears after the Taliban entered the capital, Kabul, on Sunday morning.
Officials said the government would not endanger the lives of its own staff and Indian nationals at the Indian embassy in Kabul and plans to evacuate them in case of emergency.
“The government is closely monitoring the rapidly changing developments in Afghanistan. We will not risk the lives of our employees at the Indian Embassy in Kabul and a decision will be taken based on the situation,” he said.
A convoy of the Indian Air Force’s military transport aircraft C-17 Globemaster is believed to be ready to evacuate people and personnel from Kabul.
