For international peace and security, all sides must avoid escalating tensions: India
United Nations: India has refused to participate in a notice seeking discussion on the issue in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) amid escalating tensions between Russia and Ukraine. Along with this, India said that now is the time for calm and diplomatic diplomacy. Therefore, in the interest of international peace and security, it is essential that all parties refrain from any action that may lead to escalation of tension.
Despite pressure from the US to take an anti-Russian stance, India has adopted this stance.
In fact, the voting took place on Monday ahead of the meeting of the United Nations Security Council on the Russia-Ukraine dispute. This special meeting was called at the request of the US. Russia and China voted against the Ukraine-debating resolution at the conference, while India, Gabon and Kenya did not participate. Other members, including the United States, Britain and France, voted to go ahead with the meeting.
Its Permanent Representative from India T.S. Tirumurti said, “Such a solution should be found which immediately eliminates the tension in the security interests of each country. In fact, calm and constructive diplomacy is the need of the hour. Therefore, all sides should refrain from acts that add to the tension.”
“Currently, more than 50,000 students and citizens live and study in and around the border areas of Ukraine,” Tirumurti said. Their interest is our priority. That’s why we are in touch with all sides of this dispute and we feel that this dispute should be resolved through diplomatic channels only.”
