We recently saw how to reset a nest speaker and leave it clean as a whistle without leaving a trace of our personal data and today we are going to explain to you how to reset your Amazon Echo speaker and reset its settings so as not to leave any trace of your data. no personal information.

A process that you can perform both from the device itself, using the physical buttons, and through the Alexa app that you can download from the Google Play Store and the App Store.

A necessary process if you want to sell or return the Echo speaker and that resets it to its factory values, thereby erasing all your data and settings.

With physical buttons

The easiest process is the one using the buttons included in the speaker itself. This method is valid for the third and fourth generation Echo Dot and in passing we will see how to reset the Echo Spot, Echo and Echo Plus.

To factory reset your Amazon Echo Dot, simply press and hold the “Action” button, the one with the circular icon, for a few seconds until the ring on the Echo Dot turns orange for about 25 seconds. At this point, the speaker will enter setup mode so you can set it up again from scratch.

In the case of the previous generation Echo Dots, Echo and Echo Plus, the process is partly different and to clear all data, you must press and hold the volume down and microphone mute buttons at the same time for 20 seconds until until your ring of light spins. Orange. At this point, the device will reboot and the Echo Dot’s light ring will turn orange again to enter setup mode and start the setup process by connecting it to an Amazon account.

In the case of the Echo Spot, the process is done through the options that appear on the screen. To reset the Echo Spot, you need to swipe down and find “Settings” (you can also do this by telling Alexa to “Go to Settings”). Then in “Device options” you need to select “Reset to default settings”.

Using the Alexa App

But if you want to go beyond the physical controls, you can use the Alexa app to do the whole process. You need to open the app on your phone or tablet and click on the “More” option in the lower right panel to access the settings.

At this point, you need to find and click on the “Device setup” option and the app will offer you a list in a new menu for you to choose which of your Echo devices you want to setup.

Once you have chosen the device you want to restore, you will access a screen and you must click on the gear at the top right to access the configuration of all its parameters. You must look for a section with the title “Registered in” and click on the “Cancel registration” button that you have just to your right.

A message will appear on the screen warning you that you are about to deregister this device from your Amazon account, and you should tap “Deregister” to confirm. Once confirmed, the Amazon Echo will begin to reset to delete all data it has stored and stop being linked to our Amazon account.
