Google continues to improve the “At a Glance” widget that its Pixel phones have had for more than four years, and in this week’s update it added the features that were leaked last November.
Google’s update to version 220.127.116.11 in Pixel 3a and above receives three new features with new information to display in the home screen widget and which are enabled by default.
These are the new functions of the ‘At a Glance’ widget
Until this update, the “At a Glance” widget showed your commute, weather, weather alerts, commutes & reminders, and events. Now, with the new version, it also shows your next break, information about your physical activity, and the active timer and stopwatch.
This new proactive information will show us in the home screen widget if bedtime is approaching if we have Google clock idle mode configured. The message “Get ready for bed” tells us what time we should go to bed to sleep well.
For fitness information, Google will use information about your sports activity. For example, it will show your physical activity tracker that you are recording at that time. It is currently compatible with applications such as Strava or Adidas Running. Interestingly, it doesn’t seem to be compatible with Google Fit yet.
Google has also revamped the settings for the “At a Glance” widget. Now on the main screen it shows the switches for these three new functions. To access the configuration of the rest of the functions we will have to enter “More forms of customization”.
