In 1621 William Bradford banned Christmas and yet…..Christmas persists. How did “traditional” New England holiday foods develop and evolve despite this interruption in Christmas observance? This Lunch and Learn will explore the transformation of 17th-century English holiday feasting into the Christmas foods of the colonies, and examine the cultural and social influences of the holiday plate.

Tani Mauriello holds a Doctorate in food history from the University of Oxford. She has baked thousands of loaves of bread and developed the recipes for the Plimoth Bread Co. exhibit in the Plimoth Plantation Craft Center.

Kathleen Wall has appeared on the BBC, Food Network, the Cooking Channel; in the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Boston Globe, Real Simple Magazine, and at The Partnership of Historic Bostons, the Commonwealth Museum, and Smithsonian Museum, when she isn’t demonstrating the foods and the ways of the English colonist at the Plimoth Plantation Craft Center.
