DPW wants to replace Taylor Avenue water main

With reconstruction work on Taylor Avenue set to begin set to begin late this year, or early 2018, Department of Public Works Jonathan Beder wants to get some needed underground repairs done first.

To that end, he’s asking Town Meeting to spend $2.2 million to replace the cast-iron water main that runs along the east side of Taylor Avenue. The 8-inch main, he told selectmen is 84-years-old, which is well past its useful life span, he told the Board of Selectmen, Tuesday night.

The request is on the Special Town Meeting warrant so that work can begin as quickly as possible in order to limit any disruption to summer visitors and to have it done in time for the work scheduled above ground, Beder said.
