A small business in Manomet was defrauded out of about $200 after falling for a phone scam, Friday.
According to Captain John Rogers, the businesses received a call from someone saying they were collecting $5 “for the town.” The victim, he said, provided a credit card number, which the caller then used to steal more money.
No town department is is currently doing in any sort of fundraising, Rogers said. He added that there have been no similar reports, so far. He asked that if people receive such calls to call the police.
