Cool and Scary: Tim Burton is leading this new edition of the “Addams Family,” which will be serially airing on Netflix.

Los Angeles (AP) – Oscar winner Catherine Zeta-Jones (51, “Chicago”) will transform into iconic horror figure Morticia Addams. The streaming service Netflix announced Monday the casting of the planned series “Wednesday”, a spin-off of the morbid “Addams Family”.

Netflix has also confirmed earlier reports that Luis Guzmán (64, “Narcos”, “Traffic – Power of the Cartel”) will play the patriarch of the Gomez Addams family. Tim Burton (62, “Beetlejuice”, “Sleepy Hollow”) is directing the film.

Zeta-Jones and Guzmán thus embody the parents of the main character around whom the planned series revolves. Offspring Wednesday is performed by Jenna Ortega (18, “Songbird”). The eight-part series is about the girl who now studies at Nevermore Academy and discovers her superpowers there.

Anjelica Huston (Morticia), Raul Julia (Gomez) and Christina Ricci (Wednesday) starred in the hit band “Addams Family” (1991). Zeta-Jones was last seen onscreen in Feud and Queen America. In 2003, she won the Oscar for Supporting Role in the musical “Chicago”. She has acted in films such as “Traffic”, “Ocean’s 12” and “The Legend of Zorro”.
