Hendry and Begley double up for PSHS Athlete of the Week honors

Senior Captains Madison Hendry and Colleen Begley earned Plymouth South High School Athlete of the Week honor by setting a new school record for girls’ dDoubles tennis this weekend, making it the third round of the MIAA Individual Tournament. The girls played their best matches of the year on Saturday, getting wins over tough teams from Foxboro (6-4, 6-2) and Bishop Stang (6-3, 6-4).  The girls ultimately lost a tough match on Sunday against one of the top teams in the state, but their appearance in the third round is the furthest any Plymouth South doubles teams have ever gotten. Jared Bernal runs off with Plymouth South High School Male Athlete of the Week honors

Jared Bernal placed 2nd in the 200 meters at Greater New Bedford Invitational earning him honors as this week’s Plymouth South High School Male Athlete of the Week. He is undefeated in dual meets for 2016.  He also runs on the undefeated 4x100m relay. Emily Spillane pitches her way to PSHS Female Athlete of the Week honors

The Plymouth South High School Female Athlete of the Week  is junior softball pitcher Emily Spillane. Emily was solid all week on the mound with 16 strikeouts. Emily consistently keeps her team in games.  Recently, in a tight game with Plymouth North,  Emily stayed tough defensively, shutting out North’s offense throughout the final three innings of the game and holding on to be the winning pitcher. Katie Romanovicz runs away with PSHS Female Athlete of the Week honors

Katie Romanovicz is the Plymouth South High School Female Athlete of the Week. She has been a four-year member of the spring track team and is a captain this year.  At Sunday’s division 2 state relays, Katie was a member of the 4×100 meter shuttle hurdle relay team that won first place and set a new meet record of 1:04.23.  This is the fastest time by any team in the state and qualifies the girls for New Balance Nationals in June. Chris Elliot named PSHS Male Athlete of the Week

Last week Chris Elliot pitched South to a win against Whitman Hanson throwing seven innings, giving up two runs and striking out four.  That earned him Plymouth South High School Male Athlete of the Week honors. In that game Chris also went 2 for 4 at the plate, scoring two runs and driving in two others.  Chris has been a leader on the field all year helping all of his teammates.  He finished the week going 4-9 at the plate in two other games. Courtney Carroll is the PSHS Girls Athlete of the Week

Sophomore Courtney Carroll is off to a 5-0 start at No. 1 singles this season for the girl’s tennis team. On top of being unbeaten, Courtney has also only lost three games in her first five matches.  Courtney started the season by shutting out her Hingham opponent (8-0 – rain shortened match).  She continued on her roll with four more big wins in five days, beating her opponents at Pembroke (6-0, 6-1), Quincy (6-0, 6-0), Sacred Heart (6-0, 6-1), and Middleboro(6-1, 6-0). VIktor Wright is the PSHS Male Athlete of the Week

Sophomore goalie Viktor Wright lead the Plymouth South High boys lacrosse team to two straight victories over April break. The B team beat Silver Lake 5-3 and Dennis-Yarmouth 7-5. In each of those games Viktor was outstanding between the pipes registering a total of 16 saves between the two games. The boys are 3-3 on the season. Continue Reading →

Plymouth South girls lacrosse routs Dennis-Yarmouth

The Plymouth South girls lacrosse team earned their first victory of the season Thursday afternoon, crushing visiting Dennis-Yarmouth 17-3 at Forges Field. The Panthers struck early and often, giving themselves a 13-2 lead at halftime. Taking advantage of their large lead, the Panthers shifted their focus at halftime to fine-tuning their skills. PSHS Girls tennis shows promise in loss to Hingham

The Plymouth South High School girls tennis team came up just short to Hingham on a wet Friday afternoon, which featured slightly more rain than shine. Playing only single sets, Plymouth stayed with Hingham but fell 3-2 overall. Coach Tami Degelder applauded her ladies’ efforts, noting the dominance of Hingham against the Panthers a year ago. Plymouth girls hockey playoff run comes to a sudden end

On Monday night, the combined Plymouth North and Plymouth South girls hockey team suffered a heartbreaking defeat at the hands of the third seeded Wellesley Raiders at Gallo Ice Arena in Bourne. Tied with under two minutes to play in the third period, a trickler off the stick of Wellesley’s Sophie Vernon found the back of the net, silencing a large Plymouth crowd as the Raiders advance to the Division 2 Finals at the TD Garden on Sunday with a 3-2 victory. Former Red Sox player Steven Lyons will be featured speaker at Plymouth Pilgrim’s Hot Stove Dinner

The Plymouth Pilgrims are very excited to announce their First Hot Stove Dinner for March 19 at 6 p.m. hosted by The Cabby Shack and co-sponsored by Shaughnessy Rentals. Taking place in memory of the late Dan Grimes and in support of Anthony Lyons, the Hot Stove will serve as a kick-off to the Pilgrims preseason as well as a fundraising endeavor for the club. Plymouth South extends winning streak to five

With only two games remaining in the regular season, the Panthers are playing their best hockey of the season at an opportune time. On Saturday, Plymouth South (9-4-5) earned its fifth consecutive victory, handing Sandwich a 5-2 defeat at the Gallo Ice Arena. Plymouth South’s Sessler hurdles her way to victory at state championship

Maddie Sessler led the way for Plymouth South High School winning the 55 meter hurdles at the recent MIAA Division 2 state championship. Sessler also came in third in the high jump. Meghan Gallerani was a few steps behind Sessler, finishing 5th in the 55 meter hurdles. South boys holds on in physical showdown with North

A day of basketball between the two high schools was capped with a thriller at Plymouth North High School as the visiting Panthers defeated the home Eagles 60-56 in a boys basketball classic that included an amazing atmosphere of student support, as well as some late drama as tempers flared. The Plymouth North Eagles began shifting momentum in their favor during the third quarter. Third period rally propels Plymouth girl’s hockey to win on senior night

The Plymouth girl’s hockey team was matched by Martha’s Vineyard through the first two periods of play on Saturday afternoon, trailing the visiting Vineyarders despite an edge in time of possession and a greater frequency of quality scoring chances. Jaiden Andrews named Plymouth South High School Athlete of the Week

Jaiden Andrews placed 2nd in the 55 meter hurdles at Saturday’s Patriot League meet, earning her Plymouth South High School Athlete of the Week honors. At this point last year Jaiden had never ever gone over a hurdle and now she is one of the top 20 in the state. Joe Brown is the Plymouth South High School Male Athlete of the Week

Joe Brown, the Plymouth South High School Male Athlete of the Week, was the catalyst that led the Panther to a 2-0 week and was instrumental in the comeback win over Duxbury on the road Tuesday night. He finished the game with a career high, 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. At home Friday night, Joe continued his strong play by playing good defense throughout the game. Panthers earn playoff birth with win over North Quincy

The Plymouth South boys varsity basketball team beat North Quincy 71-54 Tuesday night to earn their 10th win of the season and a postseason tournament berth. The Red Raiders (2-9) kept up with the Panthers (10-4) into the third quarter, but South pulled away thanks to a ferocious effort by seniors Ryan Morrissey and Matt Eckland. Plymouth rolls by Bishop Stang in girls hockey

The Plymouth girls hockey team crushed Bishop Stang 8-3 on Saturday night at Armstrong Arena. They came out firing from the initial face off, with shots by both Mia Sacco and Kelsey Routhier stopped by the Spartans goaltender, who was busy throughout the night. Ryan Morrissey named Plymouth South High School Athlete of the Week

Tuesday night, Ryan Morrissey scored 16 points, had 5 rebounds and 7 assists against Middleboro in a 68-49 win. Friday night,  Ryan continued his great play by scoring 27 points, had 5 rebounds and 3 assists against Scituate in a 67-59 win.
