Plymouth Pilgrims sign a pitcher and a catcher

  This offseason got off to a late start for the Pilgrims, but the team continues to make progress in putting the 2017 team together.

Plymouth Pilgrims takes steps towards return

The Plymouth Pilgrims baseball team will be returning for the 2017 season. The Pilgrim’s new management team met with NECBL league officials and members of each NECBL team in Springfield, Sunday, November 13 to finalize plans for the Pilgrims to continue operations and remain in Plymouth. PSHS student and coach honored by MIAA

Plymouth South High School student Drew Mahoney and Coach Meg Slattery attended the Inaugural Cross Country Recognition Breakfast at the MIAA office in Franklin. They represented PSHS and the Patriot League where out of over 4,000 students, only 58 were chosen to receive this award.  It celebrates student athletes who have shown success both in the classroom and on the course as well as being involved in their community. Jill Callahan named PSHS Female Athlete of the Week

Jill Callahan, the Plymouth South High School Female Athlete of the Week, has been the number one runner on the team for the past two years. Her dedication, desire, and devotion to her teammates and school work is outstanding.  Jill can always be counted on to do whatever is asked of her by her coaches.  She leads by example in the classroom and she juggles an intense academic schedule where she holds a 4.56 GPA. Shane Richardson is the PSHS Male Athlete of the Week

Golfer Shane Richardson is Plymouth South High School Male Athlete of the Week. Shane beat his opponent on Monday by 2 strokes in a win over Middleborough. He also beat his opponent by 6 in the win over Carver and again, he beat his opponent by 2 playing in the number one spot for a win over Scituate. Shane clinched a tournament spot in a one stroke victory. Four goals in two games makes Peter Duncan the PSHS Male Athete of the Week

Plymouth South High School Male Athlete of the Week Peter Duncan had a remarkable 48 hours. Thursday night he scored four goals in a 5-0 victory.  Less than 48 hours later he scored another in a 4-4 draw against Middleborough.  Peter made the switch to forward midway through the year and has recorded nine goals in five games. Milena Manic named PSHS Female Athlete of the Week

Plymouth South Female Athlete of the Week Milena Manic, a freshmen starter for the varsity volleyball team, has been an important player for the program. Milena is a very consistent server, and one of the best hitters and defenders in the program, leading the team in blocks and kills.  Recently Milena has moved to the outside hitter spot from the middle hitter, and has easily made the adjustment. Devin Leahy rushes to PSHS Male Athlete of the Week honors

Devin Leahy put the offense on his back in a 32-21 loss at Scituate. On the ground, Devin rushed for 168 yards on 22 carries and scored a touchdown. OBITUARY: Dexter Olsson, 80, metallurgical engineer, Mayflower descendant loved fine wine, fine food, and enjoyed listening to classical music, loved fine wine and food

David Trombly named PSHS Male Athlete of the Week

David Trombly has had a great start of the season for the boys cross country team, which makes him the Plymouth South High School Male Athlete of the Week. David has put in a lot of work over the summer to make sure that he is one of the top runners on the team.  Despite having some early health issues, David continued to come to practice and work hard. Hendry and Begley double up for PSHS Athlete of the Week honors

Senior Captains Madison Hendry and Colleen Begley earned Plymouth South High School Athlete of the Week honor by setting a new school record for girls’ dDoubles tennis this weekend, making it the third round of the MIAA Individual Tournament. The girls played their best matches of the year on Saturday, getting wins over tough teams from Foxboro (6-4, 6-2) and Bishop Stang (6-3, 6-4).  The girls ultimately lost a tough match on Sunday against one of the top teams in the state, but their appearance in the third round is the furthest any Plymouth South doubles teams have ever gotten. Jared Bernal runs off with Plymouth South High School Male Athlete of the Week honors

Jared Bernal placed 2nd in the 200 meters at Greater New Bedford Invitational earning him honors as this week’s Plymouth South High School Male Athlete of the Week. He is undefeated in dual meets for 2016.  He also runs on the undefeated 4x100m relay. Emily Spillane pitches her way to PSHS Female Athlete of the Week honors

The Plymouth South High School Female Athlete of the Week  is junior softball pitcher Emily Spillane. Emily was solid all week on the mound with 16 strikeouts. Emily consistently keeps her team in games.  Recently, in a tight game with Plymouth North,  Emily stayed tough defensively, shutting out North’s offense throughout the final three innings of the game and holding on to be the winning pitcher. Katie Romanovicz runs away with PSHS Female Athlete of the Week honors

Katie Romanovicz is the Plymouth South High School Female Athlete of the Week. She has been a four-year member of the spring track team and is a captain this year.  At Sunday’s division 2 state relays, Katie was a member of the 4×100 meter shuttle hurdle relay team that won first place and set a new meet record of 1:04.23.  This is the fastest time by any team in the state and qualifies the girls for New Balance Nationals in June. Chris Elliot named PSHS Male Athlete of the Week

Last week Chris Elliot pitched South to a win against Whitman Hanson throwing seven innings, giving up two runs and striking out four.  That earned him Plymouth South High School Male Athlete of the Week honors. In that game Chris also went 2 for 4 at the plate, scoring two runs and driving in two others.  Chris has been a leader on the field all year helping all of his teammates.  He finished the week going 4-9 at the plate in two other games. Courtney Carroll is the PSHS Girls Athlete of the Week

Sophomore Courtney Carroll is off to a 5-0 start at No. 1 singles this season for the girl’s tennis team. On top of being unbeaten, Courtney has also only lost three games in her first five matches.  Courtney started the season by shutting out her Hingham opponent (8-0 – rain shortened match).  She continued on her roll with four more big wins in five days, beating her opponents at Pembroke (6-0, 6-1), Quincy (6-0, 6-0), Sacred Heart (6-0, 6-1), and Middleboro(6-1, 6-0).
