Vozzella named PSHS male athlete of the week

The Plymouth South High School Male Athlete of the Week is senior Alec Vozzella.  
Vozzella is a fourth year player and a second year captain on the golf team. He won two out of three matches last week, including a 6-3 victory over Rockland.  
Not only is Vozzella to be congratulated on his outstanding sports ability, but for his leadership and involvement in the anti-bullying campaign outside the playing field. Continue Reading →

One hurt in Beaver Dam Road crash

One person was sent to the hospital with minor injuries following a chain-reaction on Beaver Dam Road, Monday morning. According to Capt. John Rogers, a car was waiting to turn onto Tide View Path, while a second car waited behind. The collision occurred when the second car was rear-ended by a Chevrolet Suburban. The driver of the car caught in between, a 45-year-old Plymouth man, was taken to Jordan Hospital. Continue Reading →

UPDATED: Pinehills hotel leaps another hurdle

The Planning Board gave its blessing to plans for a 50-room hotel of Landmark Drive at the Pinehills. Gary Dower, principal of the Mirbeau Inn and Spa in Skaneateles, N.Y. outlined plans for the project and touted his company’s success.  Plymouth has “fabulous amenities” and is well-situated between Providence and Boston to host a destination resort. Freshmen Vanessa Kanter, Jacob Jobe, Lindsey Carlson, Alec Rosemy, Julietta Mascitelli and John Maloney were nominated by their Team Teachers and awarded the "Student of the Month" award for September. Stop & Shop announces recall of organic peanut butter crackers

Stop & Shop, following a recall by Late July Organic Snacks, announced it has removed from sale organic mini peanut butter sandwich crackers due to possible salmonella contamination in the peanut butter. Blood Drive at the Plymouth Moose Lodge, October 3

The Plymouth Moose will host a community blood drive in their lodge home at 601 State Road in Manomet on Wednesday, October 3, from 2 to 7 p.m. 
Walk-in donations are accepted, but appointments are recommended; you can schedule an appointment through the American Red Cross Web site www.redcrossblood.org and enter sponsor code 7756, or you can call 800-GIVELIFE (800-448-3543).  
The American Red Cross has organized the drive, and the Lodge has volunteered their facility to hold the blood drive in the Manomet section of Plymouth.

OBITUARY: James Clapp, 88, veteran, enjoyed boats and time with family

James H. Clapp, of Plymouth, died peacefully at home with family at his side on September 24 at the age of 88. The beloved husband of the late Louise (Jannell), he is survived by his loving children James H. Clapp Jr. of Buford, Geprgoa; Edward M. Clapp and his wife Toni of Kingston, Peter R. Clapp of Plymouth, Susan C. Cecil and her husband Peter of Ft. Collins, Colorado; Dorothy Hodgkins and her husband Douglas of Plymouth and Joseph W. Clapp and his wife Lauren of Marshfield. He also leaves his nine cherished grandchildren and his brother Charles R. Clapp of Stockton Springs, Maine. He was the brother of the late Augustus Clapp Jr.

Two PSHS students earn National Merit honors

Sam Cheung and Timothy West of Plymouth South High School have been named Commended Students in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program. About 34,000 students throughout the nation are recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Commended Students placed among the top 5 percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2013 competition by taking the 2011 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Volunteer for Thanksgiving road races

Volunteers are needed for the Plymouth Turkey Trot and the third annual Thanksgiving Day Pilgrim 5k Run and Walk. The Plymouth Turkey Trot starts at Plymouth Rock at 7:30 a.m. The 4.77 mile course offers scenic views of the Plymouth’s picturesque oceanfront, and passes several historical sites including Plymouth Rock, Burial Hill and The Mayflower II. The cost to register is $20 before November 1. Prizes will be awarded to men’s and women’s winners in several age groups. The third annual Thanksgiving Day Pilgrim 5k Run and Walk kicks off from the Village Racquet and Fitness Center, 30 Gold Drive, Plymouth at 9:30 a.m. rain or shine on Thanksgiving morning. Registration open for the Sam Fry Road Race

Sign up for the 4th Annual Plymouth South Boosters Sam Fry 5k Road Race on October 14. The race starts at 10 a.m. at the Cabby Shack. Open house at the Davis-Douglas farm

Tours of the Davis-Douglas Farm will take place September 29 and October 21. The Wildlands Trust is hosting two open houses at the Davis-Douglas Farm on Long Pond Road. The events will give visitors a chance to learn about the Trust’s plans to relocate its headquarters to the property and to establish a new conservation center focused on land protection, land stewardship and passive outdoor recreation. Help a Plymouth South student with some old clothes

Some students who have job opportunities or college interviews do not have suitable attire for an interview, so an “interview closet” is being organized which would make clothes available for the students to either borrow or take as they need. The closet needs gently worn, clean dress clothes in all sizes  for both genders. Keane named PSHS Female Athlete of the week

The Plymouth South High School Female Athlete of the Week is junior field hockey player Bethanne Keane.

Lamb named PSHS Male Athlete of the Week

The Plymouth South High School Male Athlete of the Week is senior football captain Jason Lamb. 
Lamb has enjoyed a great season on the football field.  This past week he ran for 124 yards on 17 carries, had two rushing touchdowns and threw for another touchdown.  This is the third consecutive week he has run for over 100 yards. 
Not only is he a leader both on and off the field with the entire team, Lamb acts as a mentor to younger players on the team.
