Los Angeles (AP) – British star Michaela Coel (33) won a role in the ‘Black Panther’ sequel.

Details of her character in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” are under lock and key, industry newspaper “Variety” reported. American director Ryan Coogler started filming in Atlanta last month.

Coel rose to prominence last year for the startling “I May Destroy You” series about partying and dating in London and the trauma of a female victim of a sex crime. The lead actress and producer Coel also wrote the screenplay and directed a few episodes.

The sequel to “Black Panther” is slated to hit theaters in 2022. The original film starring Chadwick Boseman as Prince T’Challa in the fictional and technologically advanced African state of Wakanda was a big box office hit. in 2018. The Marvel cosmos sci-fi superhero film was almost exclusively made up of black actors. The cast of the ensemble included Daniel Kaluuya, Lupita Nyong’o and Angela Bassett.

Boseman died of cancer last August, but the sequel has been upheld. Marvel boss Kevin Feige said in December that his iconic role as prince would not appear in the sequel. But they wanted to portray the world of fictional Wakanda in order to honor the actor’s legacy.
