US President Joe Biden said on Wednesday (26) that he had instructed US intelligence agencies to step up investigations into the origin of the coronavirus in China and accused a report of the results within 90 days. The United States will also continue to work with like-minded partners around the world to pressure China to participate in a comprehensive, transparent and evidence-based international investigation and to provide access to all data. and relevant evidence, ”he said in a statement.

The Democrat pointed out that when he took office he urged Beijing to provide the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) with information about the virus. “Failure to place our inspectors on site during these first months will always hamper any investigation into the origin of Covid-19,” he said.

According to Biden, in April, U.S. intelligence released a report that details findings on doubts about the coronavirus, whether it resulted from a lab accident or whether it passed from an animal to a human. . “So far, the US intelligence community has ‘gathered around two likely scenarios’, but has not come to a definitive conclusion on this issue,” he said.

The United States is waging an international campaign to pressure China to improve transparency on the initial events that led to the spread of the virus in Wuhan. Earlier this year, a World Health Organization (WHO) expert mission visited the Asian country to investigate the case, but the results were inconclusive.

Last Sunday, a Wall Street Journal report reignited the debate by revealing that three researchers from the Wuhan Institute of Virology sought hospital care in November 2019, before the outbreak began.
